I’ve been coming to The Yard for about 2 months and I absolutely love it. I joined because I live nearby and wanted a structured workout program. I wrote this review to address some of the things that I didn’t see in other reviews.
First, the demographics of the gym. I won’t lie, I was a little intimidated when I looked at their Instagram and saw a feed full of people who looked like models. I am reasonably fit, but I am overweight and was worried I would be judged for that. That hasn’t been the case. As long as you show up and try your best, no one cares if you’re bench pressing 100 pounds or 15. The gender breakdown is about 50-50 and I’ve never been the only woman in a class, which makes a difference.
Second, the workouts. They’re hard. They involve push ups, pull ups, and other exercises that I physically cannot do in their original form. That being said, whenever I’ve asked a coach for a substitute, they enthusiastically demonstrate it for me and explain how I can work up to the original exercise. I do not like designing my own workout plans, so I love that I can just show up at The Yard and be told what to do. I feel empowered to challenge myself without overexerting and getting hurt.
Finally, the coaches. They are amazing. Even in larger classes, they proactively monitor my form and correct me when I need it. They truly want to see everyone in class succeed. I’ve had a good experience with every coach, but especially Katie and Camila.
For me, joining The Yard has been an amazing decision and I can’t wait to continue to exercise...
Read moreThe Yard gym is perfect for people who are busy, active, and enjoy being part of a community. I came by The Yard Gym on Tuesday this week, to sign up for my first class. I was initially struck by how personable everyone was. I met Rory, and Brienne. They are so generous in spirit, and welcoming.
I took my first class later that evening, The Rig. I have done my fair share of weightlifting, but I had never done olympic lifts, which were part of the class. John and Brooke were the trainers for the classes going on that evening. They were both so effective and attentive at teaching the lifts, being mindful to instruct on proper weights to use as well as proper technique. John effectively taught me how to perform 3 different olympic lifts in about 10 minutes during the class, which says a lot about his expertise.
During the class I also met so many members, who are just there to better themselves and have a great time. Teamwork and community are aspects that are creatively built in to the classes.
Afterwards, I was pretty sore in a great way. So not only did I get a solid workout and learn more about safe and effective lifting technique, I made friends in a like-minded community of great people.
I would recommend this gym to anybody who is looking for effective, efficient workouts and community. The Yard Gym is the best gym...
Read moreThe workouts here are solid based on my limited experience there. In summary: Poor customer service. Little respect for new customers. Don't trust the trials as advertised on Mind Body.
I tried the gym over a year ago with a free trial; it was good. Then, I was asked by a friend who recently joined the gym to come in on a 2-day pass advertised on Mind Body. Upon trying to use that I was turned away at the front desk being accused of creating multiple accounts to get "another" free trial. There are multiple issues with this 1) honor what you advertise 2) I did not create a duplicate account, in fact, my Mind Body account shows both of my trials in my classes 3) the person who referred me used a trial last year and then a 2-day pass as advertised in Mind Body to give it a second try. You tell me why one person gets this and other get thats. I definitely do not need a 2-day pass badly enough to create a second account to get and I highly doubt anyone else does. Even if I did, don't you want to invest in a potential customer with a measly 2 classes? I called and texted the gym to explain the situation with 0...
