BRAVO Spanish School — Local services in San Francisco

Update: After another year of classes with Cayo at Bravo, I'm extremely happy with my Spanish! I have continued learning more advanced topics, broadening my vocabulary, and increasing my speaking speed. I really appreciate the natural conversations that Cayo holds during class because it is the vocabulary and style that is most useful for my daily Spanish. Additionally, Cayo writes out words that I struggle with during class or that are new to me, which helps me as a visual learner. The weekly homework assignments are nice mid-week exercises to stay refreshed with learning.

I've been taking classes with Cayo at Bravo for 9 months and I am extremely happy with my level of Spanish! Cayo has been an amazing teacher - patient, detailed oriented, and fun. In the first class, Cayo evaluated my Spanish skills and my motivation, which primarily is to be able to converse with Spanish speakers and my girlfriends family. I appreciate Cayo's emphasis on learning certain things first so that I can most effectively communicate earlier on in my learning. It's remarkable how much Spanish I've learned in a couple of years and how much I've enjoyed learning it. Cayo is a gifted teacher as well as a kind and warm person with a great sense of humor. My wife started studying with Cayo before I did, and I wasn't expecting Cayo to be a good teacher because I always heard my wife laughing so much during her classes with him. I questioned how she could be learning much if she was having so much fun. But learning really is fun with Cayo -- now I often laugh during class. At the same time, Cayo is a very thoughtful, patient, and devoted teacher, and his very serious goal is for his students to learn Spanish. Having a good time while doing it is just a side benefit, but one that no doubt advances the learning. Cayo doesn't consider my making mistakes to be a negative; he welcomes them as opportunities for me to learn. This helps me feel relaxed and more present in class. This is not a course for someone who just needs some Spanish to travel; it's for someone who wants to be able to understand and converse...

I love taking classes with Cayo! His style of teaching is very practical, conversational, and encourages you to start speaking and practice a lot, no matter your skill level. He helps you to learn how to talk about topics that are important to you, corrects your mistakes often enough that you can learn, and not so much that it interrupts the flow of conversation. Bravo Spanish School has developed great content to help learn grammar in a way that's fun as well as informative. When I started taking classes with Cayo, I could barely make small talk, and now I can speak in Spanish for entire, long conversations with coworkers and family.
