Macy's — Local services in San Francisco

International shoppers, read on for discount!

First of all I'd like to say that this review is not exclusively about Macy's in San Francisco, but for Macy's as a department store. I will however take this opportunity to mention that San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders fans will be pleasantly surprised with the merchandise on offer at this location.

Whenever I travel to the States, which is quite often, my first google search is always "where is my nearest Macy's" as this department store has everything you could ask for in apparel at affordable prices and more often than not, discounted rates!

Whether you're looking for men, women or kids clothing, Macy's really does have it all. From smart to casual, there are dedication floors and concessions which are sure to please all tastes.

Sports and athletic fans will be pleased to find a dedicated section for casual and performance needs, including an unmatched selection of footwear supporting all the major brands you could hope for.

For those in search of some ultra swagger smart clothes without breaking the bank, I'm certain that once again Macy's will not let you down. From suits to fine dining to prep wear, this really is the one stop affordable shop for smart wear. Similarly to the sports section, there is a dedicated smart shoe section and almost always a selection of fine shoes on the discount rack for those in need of a bargain.

With its own Starbucks Coffee in-store, you have a great opportunity for some down time, caffeine, sweets and snacks and perhaps even a light lunch before heading back to your shopping, without the disturbance of having to leave the store for refreshments.

For international shoppers like me, be sure to take your identification documentation with you, and be sure to let your server know, as this will qualify you for the international discount!! In plain English, rather than pay more than what the ticket says (due to hidden tax) you will actually pay LESS than the ticket says. (Some imported concessions such as Hugo Boss will not entertain the international discount. Be sure to ask before heading to the register if your purchase qualifies).

Once again, thank you Macy's for this fine touch to your already fine store, making the shopping experience so much more enjoyable knowing that everything is at a discount.

The service at this store is some of the finest I've encountered and typically speaking, I've never had a bad experience with service in any Macy's store.

I think I'm going to need a bigger...

I had an experience last night that really underscored the reason Macy's is going out of business. At 7:45 I went by the Origins counter*. After making my purchase there I went up to 2, selected some items to try on. As I entered the dressing room, the announcer said it was 8pm. Within five minutes a female staff member was banging on the door. She asked if I needed help, but when I said yes she was visibly annoyed and didn't even bother to take the dress when I tried to hand it to her, so I wasn't surprised when she said they didn't have the size I asked for (although I had seen it myself). At 8:15 she banged again, telling me that I had been in there for "a real long time". Trying on clothes when you're north of 40, out of shape and (due to the weather) wearing several layers is enough of a hassle! I said as much, and politely asked for her patience as I had only been in the room for ten minutes at that point. When she came back at 8:25 and yelled for me to "get moving" I was so frustrated I almost cried. I had been putting each item that I didn't want back on hangers (I've worked retail and always try to be considerate). I just threw my clothes on and went to find her. I politely asked her first name, she said "nope." I tried to look her in the eyes and communicate my frustration, explaining how I have been trying to make it in all week but always work late, but she just said "u don't know what all we have to do before we can close!" I informed her that I had spent years in retail, at large department stores, in fact, so actually I did. Dillard's or Robinson's May would have fired me for allowing my closing duties interfere with customer service or treating a customer like they were an annoyance. She said "they can fire me! I don't care. People complain about me all the time and I'm still here, so...

Very unsafe store for women!!! Stay away!!!

I was there on Saturday, trying on clothes in a fitting room in the women intimate section. First of all, the door was not locked properly!!! To my surprise a man jumped in my fitting room that I thought was locked and when I asked what it was about, he apologized.

Since many fitting rooms at this Macy's are closed without a clear reason, there is a line for fitting rooms and I hurried out to give the room to the next person. As I came out of the room, this man was playing with the clothes hanging in front of that room. I assumed he's working and is responsible for clearing the clothes. Literally 30 seconds later, I remembered I had my umbrella inside the room. I went back and the clothes I was trying were there but not my umbrella.

I told the cashiers in front of the fitting room and while laughing and trying to be sympathetic at the same time, they told me that the man was a regular shoplifter at Macy's !!! That they knew him, and that all managers know of him but wouldn't let guards get involved in order to avoid liabilities for the shoplifter and guards !!! and the cashiers let me know that Macy's let that slip on a daily basis !!!

I told them first, all fitting rooms should get locked and that this man could have harmed me. Second, he could have rubbed something other than my umbrella that was of great value.
