I recommend everyone try this French brasserie/bistro dining experience. One65 is new and still settling in, so a bit of patience is appropriate. Additionally, pay attention as to what you have selected from the menu to ensure you get all the little touches that come with your selection.
One65 Bistro and Grill is an ala carte experience requiring you to ponder your food groups before ordering. Best to come with one other person to be able to share, allowing you to build a complete meal experience without overindulging in any one item.
The chopped salad pays credible homage to a salade niçoise. It is served in a wooden bowl with tossing/serving utensils. It was a bit salty, but I generally limit my salt greatly. The server indicated salt is sprinkled at the end. I may not have adequately tossed the salad when it was brought to the table. Otherwise, the various ingredients were fresh, interesting and well dressed. The hard-cooked egg was just right.
The in-house baked bread was just as should be, a hard, crunchy crust, a chewy tender sourdough center, and the right number and size of air pockets. The bread has a texture that I enjoyed and compares well with top local bread bakers. You get four slices to an order.
The wine cooler, on the cocktail menu, is mixed in batches by the bar and is as good as described. It comes in a small clear soda bottle giving it a fun inviting look and appeal as it is poured over ice into a wine glass. It would be worthwhile to just go to the bar and enjoy a midday refresher, with this wine cooler.
The ribeye steak was a chef’s special for the lunch menu. When served, it was a half inch slice off a prime rib roast served, like a French brasserie, naked on a dinner plate. It was cooked just as ordered, seared, and medium rare.
Crinkle fries were served as pommes frites and was adequate as a compliment to the ribeye steak. The fries were supposed to be served with garlic aioli but were not.
The guava tart was substituted for the chocolate mousse cake, which was not available due to a communication glitch between the waitstaff and the kitchen. The guava tart was offered and found to be a very enjoyable substitute, which was brought up from the first-floor bakery.
The coffee was very good. The coffee was served dark, full bodied, in a vintage French coffee cup, with refills available. It would be a great finish to your meal or a fine counter point to a...
Read moreI’m glad to see The Bistro at ONE65 reopen after a long break! I’m a fan of their amazing Patisserie on the ground floor but had never ventured upstairs til this month. The Bistro is a more “casual” California/French dinner restaurant on the third floor with an open kitchen. ONE65 is also home to the Michelin-starred fine dining concept O’ by Chef Claude Le Tohic and Elements Bar.
ONE65 Bistro currently has three set menus - two, three, and five courses. The prix fixe menus are a bit on the pricey side, but depending on what you order, they can be more in line with typical San Francisco pricing. We opted for the three course menu (two sets total) and were quite full, especially after the irresistible complimentary bread.
We started with some refreshing appetizers - vibrant kampachi ceviche and seasonal heirloom tomatoes with basil and burrata. Finishing the leftover sauces with baguette from the bread plate was a must. And the decadent croissant - perhaps the most buttery I’ve experienced - was sinfully good on its own.
The main courses were both substantial. I chose the campanelle pasta with romesco mascarpone sauce and mushrooms. This was quite enjoyable, with the hearty sauce easily picked up by the al dente campanelle ruffles. He got the grilled half lobster, and though I think lobster is generally overrated, I found myself impressed with the tenderness of this one.
Our server indulged our request for more bread, so we got to also try the brioche, another winner! And if that weren’t enough bread, we opted for the cheese plate with walnut bread for a savory dessert course. The other dessert was a spin on a peach melba, with poached peaches, strawberry sorbet, and a crispy almond cookie.
Overall we really enjoyed the meal, the friendly service, and the counter seating open kitchen view. When I’m feeling splurgy, I definitely want to try O’ given how strong this...
Read moreBeing true to yourself, there is great wisdom in not expecting others to live by your own wisdom. I was smart enough to find One65's doorway and not want to leave. One65 is one of my true loves discovered on my recent trip to San Francisco and all time favorite chocolatier. Ooeemmggee why can't I have this in Colorado and every where I travel???!!!! Walked in and it was the most heavenly place on earth or at least in Union Square. Came back three times during my trip and ate a box of goodies within five minutes. Could not help myself.
Staff is so knowledgeable and the gatekeeper to happiness. I seriously want a on one meeting with the tooth fairy. So many patries, sweets, coffee, and whatever your blood sugar can intake. Highly recommend the matcha strawberry cake slice and the double chocolate cake was divine. Could not stop stuffing my face with the rose lychee and lavender lemon macarons. But the super star are the fine chocolates. Happiness erupting in my mouth with the passion fruit dark chocolate and earl grey milk chocolate squares. Utter complete out of this world joy. Pricey to some but worth the spend to me. Each order is boxed up beautifully in their orgami type of packaging. You even get to select your color of choice. Fan of the orange, red and pink boxes just for an added charm.
If you can manage to not drool and pick up your tongue off the floor, definitely go venture upstairs. Sit at the bar and have your chocolate with a cocktail and let life tease you with the amount of happiness you can inhibit in your every molecule. It's the kind of happiness that lets you forget all your passwords and adulting...
