San Francisco Barbershop (The Barberhood) — Local services in San Francisco

If you’re not already a regular read this review. Based on the positive reviews I booked an appointment for my dad for Saturday morning. I got several confirmations via text and email. The morning of our appt I got a text message asking if we could change our appt time to the afternoon. We had flexibility so I agreed. We arrived 10 min before our new appt time. We had booked our appt with a senior stylist but were told he was running behind and that the assistant would be taking care of us. The junior staff was very nice and she provided a decent hair cut but it was not cool that our appt was not honored. The shave was mediocre and my dad got two cuts on his chin and lots of missed patches. I watched the other client getting a much better experience with a facial steam. Others were offered drinks including a regular who arrived after us and who was taken care of by the senior staff. We had to ask for a drink which was supposed to be whiskey included with the cut/shave package according to the website but they only had beer or white claw which we weren’t even offered. Also we were told when we arrived that it was cash only which was not indicated on their website or mentioned when I booked the appt online. I expected this to be a high end experience but was sorely disappointed. This was not the experience that was advertised and def not worth the 80 bucks. I feel I should mention we are Asian and my dad is an older senior citizen. Can’t help but feel this impacted the service we received. I’ve been going to the Barberhood since it first opened its first Location at 5242 Mission Street in San Francisco about 4-5 years ago. The owner, Jay, is INCREDIBLY gifted as not only a barber but also as a host. He always makes sure to make you comfortable, feel at home, offers you a drink and holds awesome conversations. Like 20/10 would recommend his shops and his brand to ANYONE either living in the San Francisco Bay Area or visiting and are looking for not just an amazing cut but also the hospitality that is offered at either one of his barbershops. Really, truly, an awesome experience and he always goes the extra mile to make sure that your experience is as top notch as can be offered at a barbershop. Please, go and see for yourself and you will be as happy as I always am leaving with a PERFECT haircut/shave/line...

I went in to get the very back of my hair tapered it took the barber all of 20 minutes to do if that. He charged me $65!! I called my boyfriend because I’m not from the area and I’ve gotten the same service for $15-20 multiple times at different barber shops in California.. my boyfriend agreed it was a ridiculous ask. The barber told me he’s sorrY it’s so expensive but his boss is watching him on the camera?? I was super confused but I just had my friend bring the cash and got out of there. My hair looks ok but it’s never gonna be a $65 situation. I’m the type to tip a crazy amount so it’s not about the money for me it’s the principle. 0/10 would...
