I dropped by A.C.M.E. Workwear while I was up in the city — I usually shop at Redwood Trading Post since I live in Redwood City, but I’m really glad I stopped here. It’s near Mission and Geneva, not the flashiest part of town, but absolutely worth the visit.
First off, the selection is insane for a small shop. Tons of Carhartt gear, and not just the basics — full size runs in pants, shirts, jackets, even accessories. I wear size 40x34 in work pants, and it’s always hit-or-miss elsewhere. But this store? They had it, no problem. Seriously, I haven’t seen that kind of size range at most places.
I went in looking for some new pants for work — my employer gives us a yearly stipend — and ended up getting a pair of Carhartt B01s and a tee. The pants were slightly sun-faded from being on display, but the guy helping me, Kevin, gave me a solid discount without hesitation. Super fair deal.
Kevin was awesome — really friendly and helpful, but not pushy at all. He wasn’t trying to upsell me or talk me into buying stuff I didn’t need, which I really respect. He just wanted to make sure I got the right gear. That kind of service sticks with you.
They’ve been around since 1972, which really says something. So many stores like this didn’t survive the pandemic, but A.C.M.E. is still going strong — and you can tell why. Their inventory is deep, their prices are fair, and their team is genuinely there to help you out.
They’ve even got a website (you can’t order online, but it’s cool they have one), and they sell everything from Carhartt to Dickies, work boots, hard hats, even knives. Total one-stop shop.
I’m definitely coming back. And if y’all from A.C.M.E. read this: thank you again for the help and that discount — I...
Read moreIt's a neighborhood store and it's convenient. I know know it's not their fault because they sell Carhartt, Dickies, Ben Davis etc. And it's not their fault that their wears aren't made in the US but they aren't and I prefer things made in the US. My Carhartt shorts were made in China and I wore them twice before they came apart at the seams. I thought they were USA made but nope, label says China. What's a bummer is that the old slogans used to describe clothes originally union made such as " Plenty Tough" etc. Were kept even though they are now made in China where Quality control is a myth and the consumer often times suffers the blunt end of the deal and the label still charges full bore but pays China much less than they would American workers. It's all about the bottom line. All in all though, nice folks work at the store but big corp. Has everyone by the...
Read moreKevin & Sean made me feel totally welcome & special when I came in for a pair of woman's overalls, they didn't fit right when I got home so I was nervous @ coming back & exchanging them but no small women's sizes. Sean said " why don't you try on a pair of same color she brand but pants not overalls in a smaller size. I wasn't sure but when I tried them on I was pleasantly surprised, they fit like a glove!! I left happier than when I bought the overalls! Ladies if you feel uncomfortable going there , don't, they are awesome & super cool lady or man. Its really all about the people that work in that store whether you'll be a 1 time customer or a lifetime customer....
