I am new to 24hour Fitness, so I will preface with that. 3 days into the membership and I have visited now 4 locations to find my new āhomeā. I think I finally found it with the Hillsdale location.
Location: I arrived around mid-day on a Thursday and still easy to find parking. I also felt safe in this area too.
Facilities: the best out of the 4 locations I visited in the past 3 days. Clean floor and layout. Makes sense. Music level is just rightā¦not too high to be an issue and not too low to cause a strain for those that forgot to bring their own. Pool area including hot tub, sauna, and steam the best out of the locations thus far. Shower area the cleanest too. Areas of opportunity would be marking broken lockers (not too many but there were a few) and nothing like a good spray down in the sink and bathroom area that canāt fix it. Overall still the best out of the four I checked out.
Workout equipment: only a few out of order, which is great. Enough of a selection too where I didnāt feel like I had to wait too long to get onto something and mess up my routine. Also. The class going on looked like a lot of fun as it was packed.
Service: Anthony greeted me with a welcoming smile and inquired when I checked in about my complimentary workout plan, which is great to get that level of support for someone new. I shared Iām still trying out locations to see which one would work for me, and before I went to checkout the facilities he encouraged me to provide feedback (very important aspect of customer service). At the end of my workout I shared my findings/experience and they (J and Anthony) thanked me for taking the time to share and I felt appreciated. 5 star experience thus farā¦they know how to make a first impression.
Overall: Iām going to give this a 4 star for my first day as there is always room for improvement in anything. I could tell they take pride in their āhomeā and with just a little TLC from both the gym and its members, I could see this being the 24hr Fitness flagship location in the South Bayā¦perhaps it already is? I could tell people were happier at this location and that they enjoyed working out here. Whether you are a beginner to the gym life or a lifetime member committed to fitness, I think that anyone could feel comfortable here. Kudos to J and Anthony and the staff there. I will be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis gym has been going downhill ever since 24 Hour Fitness reopened following the pandemic.
Just the fact that most of the company's gyms aren't even open 24 hours a day anymore is a clear sign that they are not living up to their reputation.
Twice in 2022, the manager who was supposed to open the gym failed to show up. Not only did this put me and many others behind on our workout schedule, but the manager, whoever he or she was at the time, faced no repercussions for such unprofessional behavior!
The recent "remodeling" was the last straw for me. After the gym closed for one month and I had to check in at other nearby locations until it reopened, I found all they did was replace the carpets, give the walls a new paint job, and spread the equipment out.
And speaking of which, in order to make room for spreading all of the equipment in the gym out, they removed a certain type of cardio equipment I liked using and left only two units of a similar model that was a complete downgrade, and as a result of there only being two, they're often occupied by other gym members constantly, and more often than not, one of them goes out of order, leaving only one available.
On top of that, this was a perfect opportunity for them to replace all of the cardio equipment with new and improved models, but they didn't. Instead, they left us with the same crappy equipment in which many of the units are still out of order. The pool isn't any better either. Like the cardio equipment, it was exactly the same as before. The water is too warm, and members frequently violate the "2 swimmers per lane only" rule, and as a result, I have to wait a long time for my turn.
24 Hour Fitness Corporate had better read my review word for word and take it to heart, because they have now lost a long time member, and unless they start making some overdue improvements yesterday, starting with firing the incompetent cheapskates behind this so-called "remodeling" job, they will continue to lose more members and this gym will close...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe first gym i went to in san jose had 40-50 dumbbells on the ground and it was the hardest thing to find matching dumbells. So i called their customer service line to switch my membership to another location which was a lot nicer. When i got there i was impressed with the gym but when i went to scan my card it was invalid and the fat man at the counter wouldn't let me in. I asked him if i could just work out that night and come back in the morning to speak with a representative cause i lived 20 minutes away. I was treated like a high school kid as if i was trying to scam a free workout and it was embarrassing in front of other members that were standing nearby. So I called that same location in the morning and told them my story and how i was irritated at the man the previous night. They switched my membership over to that location and said i was good to go. When i went in the next time (which was the following week) my card came up as canceled!!! The same fat man from the previous visit was a complete dick again and would not look up the problem in the computer and said there was nothing he could do. I spent 100 dollars on that membership for 3 months before moving back out of state and with all the trouble i trying to get in and workout was maybe 6 times. So i spent around 20 dollars a workout. Such a horrible experience. Go spend your money elsewhere. Lifetime fitness in arizona was one of the most amazing experiences ever (although double the cost). I have had memberships at ymca and LA fitness. I would recommend any of those before 24...
