Ethan Allen — Local services in San Jose

We purchased a couch from this store. The agent (Faridha) sold us a warranty (Guardsman) saying they are great and that they will help, its key etc and in need this will be useful. We purchased the warranty.

Today we have a need to fix the couch, and the warranty company is taking their own time, with many hand picked excuses on why there is a delay(4 weeks now) to approve/service. With my call they move the needle but still no response on any ETA. Interestingly, even the technician (third party firm) who came home was fast to calibrate and send his quote to the warranty company.

I called Ethan Allen store for help, and the tennis game is ON - Now they conveniently wash their hands that they are not responsible for their warranty service but can sell their service, and empathize saying I’m right but no action! ..

To the owner of Ethan Allen - Thanks for your response and for the inquiry. Sharing some data here:

1. I was informed by Guardsman couple of days ago that they would send me an email on the next steps but no email was received till today
2. I see your update saying, they would reach out to me in 7 more days which is again moving the needle to the right, the third time
3. I understand from your note that Guardsman is a separate company (insurance one) but a well branded firm like Ethan Allen sells their plan to customers when the quality of service response in terms of keeping up their commitment is sub par!
4. Regarding the couch, we didn’t have any accident. The main issue is the knob broke and the recliner can’t be used. It’s only a 3 year old couch and we already see this issue!! The technician said the mechanism becomes rigid and this happens hence we stopped using the other end of it! Is there a quality issue with the furniture that it broke?

Please read my note 3 and 4. I would shop and select the insurance company for my car but here a brand firm like Ethan Allen is only providing this or packaging it for customers. Appreciate you following up and hope to hear some response when the owner...

I ordered hunter douglas blinds from Ethan Allen for my entire house and was very disappointed with the experience. Ethan Allen staff came to my house to take measurements twice because they said the first time was not done appropriately. The installation takes at least three times, the first time they did some of the windows wrong with one of the blinds two inches shorter than the window itself. We requested for some of the blinds to not block the top of the windows when it is rolled up, but after installation the top of the windows were blocked slightly. For some windows the wands to control the blind was put in the wrong side. In the second installation, they were supposed to come back with the corrected blind to fix the blind that was two inches short but they didn’t. It appears that the communication within Ethan Allen staff and with their third party installer is very poor. Much of our requests when we placed the order were not met by the time they installed the blinds. The second installation was also full of errors, with one of the large windows which has a wand stick that is shorter than the height I requested, so I can not reach the wand at all and it is not operable. I have been promised by Ethan Allen that they will fix these issues when they come back again for the third time. So in sum, our experience included lots of lack of communication in between representatives that assisted us during this process and lots of communication issues with their third party installer. I worked with Madi Amaral at the San Jose Ethan Allen store.

First, when making a major purchase, it was invaluable to be able to go to the store and see the furniture items, rug options, and fabric choices. Online shopping is not a substitute for seeing these things in person. The San Jose store is large and has much on display, so I could be confident in the choices I made. They also allow you to check out fabric swatches and rug swatches, so you can see how they look in your room.

Second, Madi was extremely helpful. Madi has a good eye, but she also defaulted to the furniture being for my home and needing to be to my taste. Madi explained variations across items (such as couches). She helped select fabric options and was clear about pros and cons of various fabrics. Madi was patient as I took swatches home and returned them over the course of several days. I did not feel pressured; instead, I felt supported in making a good decision about furniture pieces I will (hopefully) have for years.

Third, Ethan Allen quality remains high. When the furniture was delivered, I carefully inspected it. Not only was there not a stitch out of place, the fabricators had carefully cut patterned fabric so that it was the same across multiple cushions and the pattern lined up from the top of the cushion to the sides.
