I had never been a gym member before I came to this gym. I will never be a member again after my experiences. I run half marathons and wanted to work on strength. My best friend and I decided to set up personal training. We went in together to talk to the staff and very specifically said we wanted 6 training sessions to try things out. No problem, the sign up guy said-we set up our courses and figured we were all set. The training was fun and the facilities were clean.
Unfortunately my friend suffers from a chronic recurring medical problem and she quickly discovered that the training was exacerbating the issue. When she went to go talk to the membership folks, suddenly we discovered we had been lied to. Not only could we not stop our courses, they had misrepresented the membership and had been signed up for one year of classes.
Now, I am not a stupid person, but apparently I am a little gullible. I do have to say that I expect a certain amount of veracity in a persons statements when they are representing their product. It is the sellers job to let me know if I am buying something different when I specifically ask for a different product. Selling me a year of training is very different than selling me the 6 sessions I asked for. I would equate it to selling me a used car when I came to purchase a new one and representing it as new.
After speaking with several people we determined that my girlfriends chronic condition might be the way out. Her doctor (one of many) gave her a letter indicating her substantial disease. process and she delivered it to one of the managers. The manager then indicated it was not sufficient to cancel the membership. She then asked about my friends diagnosis. It is illegal to inquire after an individuals health status, it violates HIPAA regulations. It is easy to understand that the very young staff here might not know the law, but this is a violation of human rights. What if my friend had HIV/AIDS- would that be any of the gym's business? Would that be enough to cancel a membership?
So, I am posting this review in the hopes of finding a resolution to this issue. My friend and I are both professionals, we have not lowered ourselves to name calling or screaming and we are getting no attention for our complaint. I am disappointed that I need to post publicly about this issue but hopefully it will lead to the management addressing the issue. And if nothing else it may protect someone else. Be careful of this place everyone. Work out on the...
Read moreThis gym for the most part is okay. I do have to comment on some things I saw this morning. 1. There were no bottle of cleaners anywhere in the gym to clean off equipment. Has LA Fitness decided that they do not want to provide what is a requirement? I was not able to wipe down any of the machines I used, which is disgusting! I am hoping this problem is solved immediately because whomever owns this gym knows this is not the correct thing. 2. When I went to take a shower, at 7 am, they were filthy!!. It continues to amaze me how a gym that opens up in the early mornings, does not feel the need to clean the bathrooms and showers until 8 am?? This is completely ridiculous! How about cleaning the bathrooms/showers at closing, so the people who come in the early morning (and who also pays a membership) can use a clean locker room.??? Secondly, it looked like the showers had not been cleaned for quite some time! Really LA Fitness??? I believe the cleaning lady was cleaning something in the pool area, when she should have been cleaning the women's restroom! 3. Why is it that it takes this gym so long to fix what is broken??? The Saunas have been broken for a month (according to staff). We pay a membership, and if we do not pay, you are ready to hunt us down. That same diligence should be given to ensuring that all things are functioning at all times. So when are the saunas going to be fixed?????????? LA Fitness has been in business many years. To be writing about these problems is just criminal, and should be an...
Read moreI've been a member of LA Fitness for 10 years. I go to the location at Carl Boyer and Central Point in Santa Clarita. 5 stars for location/ 4 stars for cleanliness/ 3 stars for informing members about gym etiquette. This is for all you members at LA Fitness Santa Clarita, re-rack your F-ing weights/ 2 stars for treating Santa Clarita location like a stepchild compared to your Stevenson Ranch and Valencia location. We never received any new equipment, occasionally we get a different piece of equipment but it is a hand-me-down from one of their other locations. The Santa Clarita gym has also had gym equipment taken out of the gym, it was used daily by members for years and never replaced. Example bicep cable machine/ 1 star for letting a racquetball Mafia form that dominates all the courts on Saturday morning. LA Fitness don't use the excuse that you can reserve a court on Saturdays mornings, it's impossible, the racquetball Mafia reserves all courts ahead of time more than a week in advance. If you are lucky to reserve a court on Saturday morning the racquetball Mafia hovers around your court hoping that you will step out and they will then...
