In the age where digital screens dominate our daily lives, there's a sanctuary that beckons the true connoisseurs of the written word. Sundog Books, ensconced in the heart of Seaside, stands as a beacon for bibliophiles, much like a lighthouse guiding ships lost at sea.
From the moment one steps over its threshold, there's a palpable magic in the air, reminiscent of old-world libraries where every tome holds a story, not just within its pages, but also in its weathered spine and dog-eared corners. The shelves brim with treasures waiting to be discovered, from classics that have stood the test of time to contemporary masterpieces waiting to leave their mark.
The staff, guardians of this literary realm, possess a knowledge and passion that's truly commendable. Their recommendations aren't just based on bestseller lists but on genuine appreciation and understanding of literature.
Despite the modern world's hustle and bustle outside, within Sundog Books, time seems to stand still. A visit becomes a journey, an exploration of worlds both known and yet to be discovered. It's a place where stories come alive, and dreams are nurtured. A resounding five stars, for in Seaside, this bookstore is not just a place; it's...
Read moreI had been going to this bookstore for years. A year ago, my family and I came to Seaside for a family wedding. We walked from our condo to Seaside for dinner. We underestimated how hot it was. I stepped into Sundog to cool off from the heat and browse books for a few minutes-my face was bright red. The Owner had set up a table right inside the front door. He demanded I wear a mask. I told him I had Minear's, and masks increased my vertigo. He lectured me on how I was "endangering" others. I responded that masks were not effective. He demanded I leave. I turned around and walked out. I walked next door to meet up with my kids to get a drink. Five minutes later a Seaside Security Officer walked up to me and asked me to LEAVE Seaside. We said, WHAT? It seems the Owner actually called the Seaside police, even though I did exactly what the Owner demanded, with no drama. The Seaside policeman made a public spectacle. We ended up staying, but I will NEVER go back to Sundog. They were not just rude--but after my compliance to leave the store actually called the Security Department to hunt me down, THEY are the ones creating drama. No longer a fan of Seaside who allow store owners like this bully...
Read moreI adore this bookstore. The selection, the location, and the atmosphere are fantastic. I visited this store many times while staying in the area and rarely went in with any ideas of what I wanted beforehand, I always walked out with a stack of interesting and unique books I couldn’t wait to read. I also love this bookstore because I can take my dog with me! I travel all over with my pup and he loves getting to socialize and shop alongside me, this above all other reasons was a big motivator for me to shop here and kept me coming back! Thank you for allowing well-behaved pups to join in on the adventures! These days the only way small businesses can compete with the big retailers that undercut pricing is with experience - because I so enjoyed the experience of shopping here I didn’t mind paying a little more for books. *The only area for improvement would be on the customer service side, I understand that they can get very busy with a lot of people wandering around (especially on weekends) so I don’t expect them to constantly be greeting everyone but even during checkout the staff was quiet and not...
