While on vacation I decided to see another facet of the 30A corridor and by a different means. My friends and I decided to take a kayaking tour of the iconic Western Lake. We met our guide Molly, got in the kayaks at the boathouse and were off. The weather was ideal. We kept a very comfortable pace except when we stopped to here the various bits of information provided by our illustrious leader. Molly informed us about the rare geologic phenomenon known as coastal dune lakes, the ecology of the area, the history of the area that includes St. Joe paper company, the adjacent parks and nature trails and many other points of interest. Read moreIt was the first kayaking experience for my niece and nephew, and the gentlemen that helped us get in and out of our kayak, was super thoughtful, patient and kind. He clearly explained where we could and could not go, and was able to help us understand the waterways. I had an hour for my nephew and then needed to switch for the second hour for my niece, and he graciously looked out for to come back to the dock and safely make the switch. I didn't need any instruction, so the boathouse boys set me on my vessel and sent me on my way. Very polite and helpful with no judgement. An hour was appropriate as the heat was stifling.
