I have tried my very hardest to look pass what I think is blatant racism, as it relates to people of color, while selling items to this store, but I refuse to continue to be silent. I discovered Clothes Mentor while living in Schaumburg, IL. I'm not a resale shopper, but over the years, I have liked the idea of having somewhere to take my unwanted clothes because my wardrobe changes yearly. Now let me be clear...the associates are pretty great outside of Tracy (not sure if that's the correct spelling of her name). Anytime I've sold items when she was there, she has always given me this "look". I may be wrong in my opinion, but when working with her, I have always felt insulted. Like, "whose items are these? Surely, this Black woman can't afford these type of things." And she has always low balled my high end merchandise, but I was in there yesterday and they had a Louis Vuitton "Delightfull" in there for $729, that was in horrible condition. However, I remember I had a 3 year old Damier Speedy 30 that was in mint condition except for some very obvious wear in the lining, and she told me it was too worn to accept. You would've had to be there to see her face. She had this look like my bag wasn't real. I get it; she doesn't know me from Eve. But she can clearly see color. I'm not really sure how she's an expert, but hey, who am I to judge. Years ago, I owned a resale shop and it wasn't a franchise business, but one I started on my very own. However, due to work travel and unreliable employees, I had to move on. Overall, I don't think Clothes Mentor-St. Louis is a bad store, but I do think there needs to be some restructuring at the higher level. I've only met Nancy once. Hmmm...is all I will say. Gonna stick to my guns and continue packing up my G-Wagon and road tripping to Schaumburg to sell at The Clothes Mentor there where I don't feel so insulted. Now, I will give them this...when it comes to Pink and Nike merchandise, I have always made a nice penny off of that, but I guess you can't fake that huh?! When in the customer service business, people need to learn to let their prejudice against another race take a backseat. Your business will thrive...
Read moreI'm all for clothes mentor, I got some of my favorite pieces at various clothes mentors. My last visit to the South County store (about a week from now) was quite interesting.. when I walked in I got stared at with no greeting, it just made shopping here awkward. I struggled to find someone to get me a fitting room, and there was dust and what looked like different grease and marks on the walls, which hadn't been cleaned properly for whay looks like days. There was just a lot of dust in the store, including all over the floors. And there were clothes with a little too much wear, some tops were pilling and had holes in them, some even had safety pins holding the clothes together. I do love the big selection and I did find some clothes that were cute and like new! But I had to pass on the majority of it because of just wear. I understand Clothes Mentor is resale but if a top is gonna be priced at 22 dollars, that's pricey for something that's worn down. And while checking out I heard other employees talking about drama and what seemed to be another employee. I don't know their names because I was mainly focused on just leaving. After all, it started getting uncomfortable for me to shop. I may just stick to the Ellisville location, they are always the sweetest and friendliest people with a good sense of humor! I still like this location because of the designer handbags and jewelry but it won't be my...
Read moreSo I usually don't speak negatively about any company or I at least try to find the good in all the companies I review. I went to the South County Clothes Mentor store and I have to say their customer service has gone down dramatically. I spoke with two people in person and one on the phone in regards to selling clothes/consignment with them like I've done in the past. The lady on the phone would not tell me anything just to come back to the store and pick up my stuff. I was waiting to hear more info like can they sell all or some of my clothes but no she said you need to pick up your clothes and hung up.
One of the shirts that I wanted to do a consignment for I bought from them and only wore once- no stains or anything. They said it was not their type of style and wouldn't take it. They're the ones that sold it to me! They also said they no longer sell lularoe. I love lularoe and I like it when I can find them at second hand stores which makes them more budget-friendly. The lady physically looked me up and down and condescendly told me they no longer sold them. I understand styles change but this brand is still very popular and it's on the clothes mentors website that they have some for sale -but I digress.
I think the staff needs to be retained on customer service. They lost my...
