As I progress as an artist, I increasingly find that this particular Blick just doesnât carry the items needed by an actual, professional artist. The items that they choose to carry are more focused on student to lower/mid artist grade products. When the Art Institute was still in Schaumburg, this made sense. Their main customer base were the kids that went to that school. Now that they are no longer there, the area really needs an amazing fine art supply store. Blick should be it, but time and time again, Iâm having to order basic supplies online because they donât carry it in store, even though itâs on the website. Or, Iâm told that I need to go downtown in order to get QoR paint, full sets of Polychromos pencils or even several kinds of paper or card stock. If it requires me going to downtown Chicago, I will absolutely order online from either Blick, Amazon or Jerryâs Artarama before I ever think about making the trek downtown for something. Itâs becoming more and more difficult to purchase the art supplies I need locally, and I would much prefer to spend my money locally...
Read moreFirst time in this store but I couldn't find a decent selection of wooden rulers with the metal edging on it. Amazon sent me some very misleading products that I couldn't really tell if they were going to be of any level of quality and they ended up being total crap.
I got to the shop less than an hour before closing time and I have to admit that as clean and orderly as the store is they have such a large selection of art supplies that it was very overwhelming to me. If one doesn't like employees pestering them to see if they need help, then this is the place for them. I walked around for a bit trying to find the aisle where rulers might be and although a smaller store it took me some time. I definitely found other things I didn't know I needed. A few other customers were in the store and when I was admitting defeat and about to seek out help I found the drafting section with all sorts of different rulers. I ended up buying 3 different lengths of wooden rulers and an art case. I also received a Teacher's Discount. I was...
Read moreGood art supplies, but you might as well order online because the staff is less than helpful. Employees dont take customer care seriously. Unhelpful in answering my question, made me feel like a fool for not understanding their stores' way of pricing things. I had misunderstandings about the sale on colour pencil sets and they did a poor job of explaining the difference between a list price, a store price and what the 50%off sale referred to. The man "helping" me just left me in the isle. I stood waiting and wondering if an employee would come back to help me, but after a while of standing there I felt like a fool, so I finally left the store. WILL NOT come back to Blick.
BLICK: Please DO NOT advertise %off sales when it doesnt apply to the price shown in the store. At least explain HOW an item would be 50%off in your email advertisement. Your advertising strategies are horrible, i drove 30 minutes there only to have a bad experience. You just...
