Wow. My boyfriend and I came here because I'm not a huge fan of HEB or Walmart, but no longer have the budget for Sprouts or Whole Foods. Unfortunately, SA doesn't have any ALDI's, so we were looking for an alternative. When we came across Arlans, we decided to go give it a look. When I say I have not been able to buy a weeks worth of groceries this cheap in over 2 years, I mean it. I see some people saying some things are overpriced here, but I'm curious as to what they're talking about. Maybe I just went on a good weekend, but even a family size of Doritos we got for around $3 post tax. For a weeks worth of food, we paid about $95. We were even able to afford some new tupperware that we have been in need of. To give you an idea- our weekly budget for grocery (incl. things like shampoo etc that are a little pricier) is $200 with the current economy. We spent less than half that at Arlans. If you are able to make it to this location, I highly recommend. The employees are great, its not super packed, and their products are high quality. Ive seen the reviews on other locations talk about not-so-fresh meat/produce/frozen items, so I can't speak to ALL Arlans locations, but the management at this one seems to be...
Read moreFiance and I just purchased a home in town, and decided to stop by for our first round of groceries. We were extremely pleased with the quality/prices of the meat and produce. Better than I've seen at any big box stores, easily. Everything else was hit-or-miss as far as price goes. Bread and most boxed or snack items were at least $1 over what we regularly pay for groceries, so we unfortunately had to pass on some things we usually buy. There was one cashier when we came to the line, which quickly piled up behind us, and even after another register opened we kind of got the feeling everyone was getting more irritated with us for being there to buy groceries, than the fact that the store only had two cashiers on hand around lunchtime. A customer started shouting UPCs at the employees behind the guest counter when she informed him she couldn't check his items out for him. It was a little awkward, but we'll definitely give Arlan's another try for the meat and...
Read moreSaw a reprehensible incident at Arlen's today when a family with a young special needs boy was in the store. He was very active and loud, and it was noticeable to all that he had special needs. The mom was very apologetic and embarrassed when the boy kind of made a scene. Sadly, instead of being empathetic and helpful, a couple of young male cashiers were making fun of him right after they left. "Did, you see that? F-ing hilarious! He ran right around the flower area. That kid was so damn funny." As a parent of a special needs daughter, I was pretty disgusted not by the boy, but by the cashiers making fun of him. Special needs kids deserve special care, not ridicule. Mocking him behind his back right in front of costumers was too low a standard for a store that is known for service to...
