All I have to say is — WOW.
I visited The Purple Pig BBQ and had one of the BEST experiences yet for Porter’s Food Reviews. Big shoutout to my friend Cory for recommending this spot — it definitely didn’t disappoint.
I’ve seen reviews floating around Facebook — all good, none bad — so I had to find out for myself if it was the real deal or just hype.
Spoiler alert: it’s the TRUTH. No hype. Just 🔥🔥🔥.
🏠 Atmosphere & Vibe:
First off, I love the setup. The restaurant is inside a remodeled home, giving it a cozy, welcoming, homie feel. It’s super clean, and you already know purple is reppin’ everywhere — and it looks dope!
The owners Demetric & Cherise Herron (salute!) and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming the moment we stepped through the door. It honestly felt like I was invited to a friend’s backyard BBQ, not just eating at a restaurant. That kind of hospitality is rare — and appreciated.
🍽️ What I Ordered:
Rib Tips
Mac n Cheese
Creamed Corn
Baked Beans
Grape Kool-Aid
Peach Cobbler (of course)
🔥 The Breakdown:
Rib Tips – Massive, meaty, and full of flavor. The perfect tenderness with just the right smoke — not overpowering, just complementing the seasoning. Truly well done.
Sauces – They’ve got 3: Sweet, Mild, and Hot. I went in on the sweet and hot. The sweet had that tangy BBQ kick, but the hot? 🔥 That was my favorite. Great flavor, not just heat for the sake of heat. A perfect balance.
Mac n Cheese – Creamy, cheesy, well-peppered, and cooked just right. No mushy pasta here.
Creamed Corn – Rich, creamy, with a kick of pepper. A solid side.
Baked Beans – My favorite side of the meal. Full of bold, sweet, and tangy flavor. Addictive!
Grape Kool-Aid – Because you gotta stay on theme. Refreshing and not overly sweet — it hit the spot.
Peach Cobbler – A perfect ending. Balanced sweetness, real peach flavor, and a buttery crust that brought it all home. A must-have.
Final Verdict:
With all due respect to other spots around town — The Purple Pig is the BEST BBQ I’ve had in San Antonio area (its in Schertz). Hands down.
10 out of 10. They greet you with a smile, feed you like family, and send you home fuller and happier than when...
Read moreSo disappointed. Spent a good amount of money here , and don't get me wrong we picked it up 30 mins before closing & it was 1 hr after until we were able to eat it and they were closed already. But, they gave us pulled pork instead of chopped brisket. The smoosh texture , the dryness , the pale color right away when opening box you can see it's pork. I opladed a picture of the meat. I showed various different people just by picture what meat does this look like right away pork. The people who ate it new. It was so Gross. Beans were alright tho. The next day had my coworker tell them the issue went to tell them about it showed pictures. Just wanted to let them know for a future reference on next customer but they were just complaining and insistant that it's brisket, trying to show the difference between the 2 which what they supposedly used compared to the other this n that. But you can still see it was pork.have the picture of all 3 as well .. Still trying to make their point but I know what's what no matter how much they say no and disagree. Like it is what it is just own up to it. But now lost a customer since y'all are selling pork as brisket. And hopefully anyone else reading this ! Be careful when y'all take to go especially if it's not for right away. Shady....
Also your comment is irrelevant I'm not even the girl who went into complain about it I told her she should only bring it up to you guys the issue not for anything else. Just so y'all can know but didn't even give a apology because your "so right" that's why businesses like yours should go down as quickly as possible. And that's why my comment will never get removed this is my honest review who paid for the meat for a potluck. The girl who went in bought the beans. So since you didn't care then hopefully you'll care now. I edited a few words since you didn't argue...
Read moreDelicious! That's the review! Here are the deets.. my hubby had been here a few times but it was my first. I asked one of the staff what would you recommend to a first timer she says with conviction, The Rib tips! I agree and I order baked beans and potato salad for sides. Because in my opinion if you can't get those sides right, you have no business putting the word BBQ next to your business's name. People let me tell you the Purple Pig deserves to have BBQ next to the name! My rib tips were so tender and good I had to make myself stop eating them or I'd embarrass myself in front of my mother in law! The sauce was so good and the way it stuck to the bread! Yummy! You know what I mean! That bbq flavor and the sauce makes the bread a little toasty and soaks into the bread! For my hubby's meal he had pulled brisket green beans and Mac n cheese. Decent but I'd say the rib tips is where it's at. Hubby says he'll go back to the rib tips next time too. He tried the brisket to get something different but we agreed, my food was waaay better than his. We're used to tender & juicy sliced brisket and this shredded like pulled pork and ok. Regarding the interior, there is indoor and outdoor seating available. I love the cute hints of purple to play off the restaurant's name but trust me you may wanna eat your food at home lest you embarrass yourself in front of strangers.. but who cares, they don't know you! Eat in and don't worry about having bbq all over your hands and face possibly your clothes because you won't care! It's that good!
For dessert we split a tasty peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream.. it had the perfect ratio of peaches, crust and peach syrup. Very good!
