I lived at Decatur Crossing for three years, and I can say without a doubt that they've set the gold standard for all future apartment complexes that I will live at. I moved away only to be closer to my job because Atlanta traffic has the effect of making you contemplate the meaning of life and wonder what it's all for. The other reviews on here don't provide a ton of useful information when it comes to selecting a place to live, so I'll try and be as helpful as possible.
Apartment units and property: During my time at DC, I lived in two different apartments. Both met all of my day-to-day living requirements and made good use of limited space (~600 sq. ft.) with an intelligent floor layout. You will definitely pay a premium for location, regardless of apartment size. That said, I can actually say it's worth it as an alternative to living in downtown Decatur, which is cost-prohibitively expensive. During the warm parts of the year, the pool area is wonderful and well kept. Now, to address two common sticking points when selecting a place to live: safety and pests. While there were several isolated incidents during my three years at DC, none of them were particularly heinous, and more importantly, I never once felt unsafe in the community, truly. Parking sucks, and there's sort of no solution for one main reason: There aren't enough spaces to accommodate everyone because some residents have more than one car. During "peak" parking hours, if you're not in early, you probably won't get a spot right in front of your building. I would hardly call this the end of the world, but many apparently disagree with me. Regarding pests, I experienced what I would call an "as-expected" level of annoyance. I never slept with one eye open nor felt overwhelmed with miniature unwelcome visitors. Remember, this is the South. If you want ZERO pests in your home, you're out of luck no matter where you live.
Maintenance: There's honestly not a whole lot to say here other than the fact that they're fantastic. I know how busy they are, so I always stressed that I didn't want to be considered a priority when I submitted a work order. Nevertheless, problems were almost always resolved within 24 hours, which is stellar. On top of that, the maintenance guys were always super friendly. Have fun finding that kind of maintenance team anywhere else.
Management: I saved the best for last. DC's apartments are pretty great, but they're not unparalleled. What is unparalleled is the level of professional courtesy, friendliness, and bend-over-backwards-to-ensure-that-you're-happy-and-comfortable service you'll get from a perpetually understaffed leasing office. I don't know how the manager and assistant manager do what they do by themselves because I'd last about one month in their shoes.
Advice to those considering living at Decatur Crossing: If you are looking for a safe place to live that is located in a convenient location (might as well be downtown Decatur but also quite close to 285), this place is a no-brainer. If you don't get along with management here (at least those in charge at the time of my departure in May 2016), there is a good chance that you are an idiot or at the very least a generally disagreeable person. Levity aside, you can count on having a positive living experience here. When you need help with something, be courteous with those who are willing and ready to help you.

Read moreIf you are looking for good price, high quality housing close to MARTA, this is your place. I have been living here for almost a year and I have loved it! The management team at Decatur Crossings is amazing. Not only are they really nice, honest, attentive, and understanding, but they give you personal time and assist you at a personal level for whatever you need. PROs: Maintenance: Speedy response from maintenance team (they've come for several minor things and they were usually here in less than a week and if they found bigger problems, they would let us know and attend to them after my approval). Community: Quiet and clean complex with a community feel to it. Sometimes there will be kids playing outside but they are not loud and it brings life to the community. It is a great place for young families. You might see a lot of leaves laying around during the fall, but not to the point where it becomes an eye sore. Price: Relatively inexpensive rental rates. These were some of the lowest rates we could find in the area. The apartments are not very new, but they are well taken care of. Location: The location is great if you want to be close to MARTA, Downtown Decatur, Kroger, and Dekalb Farmer's Market. The complex is in a location where it is not immediately surrounded by busy buildings/businesses, so this helps in keeping the community quiet and safe. Pool Area/Grill: Pool area has a grill with propane provided by management. The grills are well kept and we've had a few chill cookouts by the pool. Parking: There are a lot of parking spots and I can generally park really close to my apartment. There are also plenty of visitor parking spaces by the entrance after you enter the gates. Management: This management team is the best. Adriano is super friendly and is very attentive to the tenants. One time I told him my wife and I were looking into buying a house (expecting him to try to convince us to stay since he is the manager), but he was extremely supportive and even gave us tips! I was pleasantly shocked. He has made our day MANY times, and so have the other management members!
CONs: Laundry Center: Sometimes tenants will leave clothing unattended in the washing and drying machines, so you either politely wait, or assertively move their clothes outside of the machines and generously place them in drier or on top of folding table. Some tenants will apologize, and others get defensive. Management did place a lot of signs asking tenants to not leave clothes unattended, so it makes it easier to move other's clothes. Bugs: My wife did not like the number of bugs here and it bothered her. Management was responsive and they sent the pest control several times to take care of them (my wife made several of service requests). *GYM: The gym is... cute. It has the basics, but it is small, so you do not have a lot of space if you want to do personal exercises in there.
Overall, I really love this place and would recommend it to anyone. The price, management, maintenance, location, and community make it a great place to live. Yes, there are a few things that could improve, but no apartment complex is going to be perfect. So instead of risking it and going to another place, I would invite anyone in Atlanta and Decatur area looking for good and inexpensive housing to try Decatur Crossings. At the very least, you will not regret it. At best, you will love it like I (and my other friends that live in the...
Read moreI had to take my post down from prior, after moving in and being in this complex for only four months, my heart aches, I have had so many problems with the staff in the office, well it started off with me having to ask right after I moved in for my key card to be fixed, due to not being able to open the gate, I only had my son who visits me come once in awhile, and once he did I had a problem with the code to the gate to allow him access inside. I believe this is why they treated me this way, itâs the only real reason I have. Well I started finding my mail outside on the ground directly in front of my mailbox, to the young man who picks up the trash, not picking up my trash to kicking my trash can around, I got it all on my door camera, to the maintenance men going in and out of my apt. Placing my panties in the washer in top of the spinner and leaving my control switch door open in the laundry room, I guess they wanted me to know they had come into my place to breaking my palm tree in half, after I had complained about all of these strange thing. Oh by the way I just all of a sudden stop receiving my mail. The tenant upstairs who was in her eighties, would bump on the floor over my head walking very heavy, whenever she knew I was home, bc her husband would have their door ajar to watch for me to walk pass their door, after I would get home from work. No one, and I mean no one walks as heavy as she would across the floors. She also deliberately would drop all of the debris from her plants on my balcony, and Iâm talking so much, to where I couldnât see the ground, I told the office staff and it only got worse to the place I had to move out! I had no peace there, sad.
The staff even cheated me out of monetary from my deposit. I paid every month on time even for services they didnât provide like pest control stopped coming and doing his job, to trash pick up. Living there was the worst, but what sad is I didnât do anything to do deserve the treatment they gave me, but ask in the beginning of moving the third day there if they wouldnât mind fixing my key card.
I had to converse continuously with the Regional Manager, mind you she was no help, so I just found myself in the same boat and the situation got worse and worse until I had to leave. When I say I racked up, which I have every email from Regional , the Office staff, to the videos of my plant the balcony etcetera saved itâs not even funnyâŚ
This place I wouldnât even give it a one star, I had to put something in order...
