Kafenio Avondale — Restaurant in Avondale Estates

I am incredibly honest when I share reviews. During a recent visit to the Decatur area my husband and I stumbled across this interesting establishment. Going in we had no expectations...BUT WOW!!! This was one of the greatest breakfast experience is my husband and I have ever had. The establishment was beautiful, clean and the staff greeted us immediately upon entry. The cashier was very patient as we looked over the menu. She was wonderful and assisting us with suggestions on what to order. I ordered the Grits Bowl and my husband ordered the hash brown Bowl we also ordered a hazelnut latte. Allow me to say that everything on the plate was beautifully arranged perfect portion and simply divine! The atmosphere was wonderful everything about this experience was on point. The grits was perfectly cooked hot and fresh. So was the egg perfectly over easy and the turkey sausage was amazing! The latte was beautifully presented perfectly flavored and steaming hot. All of the tables and floors were clean and everything was crisp and ready for patrons. The decor was unassuming yet interesting and attention grabbing. What a fantastic place to have a pleasant breakfast with your husband or family. No need to add salt or pepper to anything has everything was perfectly seasoned. I'll start off by saying that the food is good. All very tasty, hot, and fresh. I used Doordash and it came quickly. HOWEVER, and this is minor, I was looking forward to the piece of Baklava that I ordered more than anything and it wasn't in the order I received. This next part is unrelated to Kafenio but I just had a similar situation where I ordered takeout for pickup at another restaurant and the baklava I ordered wasn't in the bag but I paid for it. Lesson learned, always check the bag before you leave. Let's just said that my disappointment compounded. I called Kafenio immediately to notify them and they gave me a credit and the gentleman who answered the phone was very nice, regardless of my upset tone. I have had a really awful few days and wanted so bad to have a sweet hug from the inside so my biggest disappointment and complaint is that I won't be having that piece of baklava, sounds selfish, I know. I understand that it's silly to expect them to drive it out to me. I'm not even sure how it could have been avoided even if the bag were checked infront of the driver, he probably wouldn't go back to get it. I just hope it doesn't happen again. If it wasn't for the small error I would have given 5 stars. This wouldn't deter me from ordering from them again or from using Doordash. Accidents happen and I feel that feedback can help to avoid future errors. I'm hoping next time I can give another...

My best friend and I have lived in the area for years and were excited to find Kafenio, especially for gyros. Our first visit was great, excellent food and 10/10 customer service, so we planned to return regularly.

Unfortunately, today’s experience was disappointing. I asked the cashier (a young woman with black hair and hot pink highlights) a few questions about the menu, which she answered politely, just like last time. However, while waiting for my order, I overheard her loudly mocking me to a coworker (another young woman with short jet black hair), saying things like “I know the menu better than anyone,” and “What does the menu say?”, “How are you going to try to tell me what the menu says?”, and other remarks clearly aimed at me. I was less than 10 feet away.

As someone who works in food service, I understand customer questions can be repetitive, but I wasn’t being rude or difficult. I simply didn’t know/understand all the options and asked for clarification. Her comments felt uncalled for and made me uncomfortable. At least have the decency to wait until I’m no longer there if you’re going to complain about any customers at all.

Kafenio is a great spot with good food and a nice vibe, and I was looking forward to attending their networking events offered on Eventbrite, but after today, I’m reconsidering. I hope management addresses this, so no other customer is made to...
