I've been going to classes at SIMA for about two months now and I'm stronger, faster, and feeling better than I have since I was in college. I really wanted to learn Jeet Kune Do and SIMA is one of the few places that offers it. I take classes in Kali and Muay Thai mainly, which are complementary and contributory to learning JKD later. And there are at least four other kinds of fighting that I don't practice but I can jump in and out of anytime I want.
The classes aren't fussy, pretentious, or reliant on ceremony as a lot of other martial arts schools are. Show up, wear the school t-shirt, bow-in, and practice. Most classes consist of a series of moves that range from one beat to complex combinations. Every exercise builds on the last and instructors are patient, observant, and invested in ensuring that each person in a class executes exercises properly. Good technique leads to speed and you see steady results week to week.
Bob, the owner, is an affable fella who's hired some highly skilled, very dedicated instructors who also practice and compete for the school. There's a strong community and camaraderie at SIMA. It's a great place to learn a new new way to exercise your mind and body without the posturing and self-consciousness of being on your...
Read moreHey Seattle, I'd like to take a moment and reach out to you and try to bring some awareness to a subject that touches my heart dearly. You see as of late we have become a bit complacent with our everyday protection/safety. And when situations reach our doorstep we are left in shock because truly we were not prepared for the situation. One of those issues is self-protection, on average most individuals are not ready to deal with confronting or are even capable of handling confrontation. This is where SIMA martial arts comes in. I have been a student there for over two years now and I am sure that I have found my home away from home. SIMA is instructed by Guru Bob Heinemann and what an instructor, I don't believe that I have ever had a more knowledgeable instructor who makes you feel so excepted and truly like you have been friends for years. The classes offered are BJJ, Muay Thai, JKD, and of coarse Kali. All these lend them selves to you, from working on any minor health issues, defense reasons, or your just simply wanting to experience a day in the life of "John Wick", then stop into SIMA martial arts. You can thank me later...
Read moreI originally enrolled at Seattle Integrated Martial Arts because I was having problems at home and I needed a way to let out stress and get in better shape. What I found here was so much more. Originally I was shy and intimidated training with these guys who could completely crush me if they wanted, but one of the philosophies at SIMA is that anyone should feel comfortable training with anyone else. Over the past 3 years SIMA has become an important part of my life with many of my training partners becoming very close friends. I'm more confident now and in better shape than I have been in in the past 18 years. It's a wonderful community so drop on it, give it a chance and see how it can change your life. Update edit: Google says I should update my review. I teach Brazilian jiu jitsu here now 😂 guess that should say how I feel...
