A five star rating just doesn't seem enough for this gym, but alas it will have to do. They absolutely meet (and exceed) the standards of cleanliness, quality/variety of equipment, attentive management, and a crew of truly amazing trainers. More than that, this gym in unlike any other I have step foot in. This place is mesmerizing, captivating, inspiring, challenging, supportive, accountable, comfortable, and damn near my top places to be EVER (my very cozy home included).
Have you ever seen a small gym like this? Maybe you saw it on an IG story or walked by one.. but if you've witnessed this time of work the individuals show up to put in, you may have noticed it can be both contagious and intimidating, at least it was for me. When I reached out to a trainer at this gym, I was hesitant but I had big goals, big gains in mind, and I saw the drive in their eyes. The first day I stepped into OTR, my workout partner wasn't there yet- my worst nightmare, ha. Instead of the fears my brain had concocted about being immediately judged for my lack of knowledge in this field, I was met with the most welcoming smiles. Over the next few visits, I met nearly everyone in the gym. I was assisted by nearly everyone in the gym. I quickly began to see these folks as family as we cheered each other on, sweating in the 100 degrees, with nothing but love (loud love).
I'll never forget one of my first workouts with the gals, during flat bench I said something to the impact of, "I'm just doing 5lbs". I said just because the ladies I was working with had just loaded a cooool 25+ lbs on each end. I didn't even think about the language I used here until Malinda (one of the above mentioned trainers) said something similar to, "I don't ever want to hear JUST anything! That is 55lbs girl! 55lbs! And you should be PROUD!" And in that moment, my perspective switched and I was proud. I could write a book about this place in all honesty, but I feel that story encompasses what On The Rise is- a place for all to be their best selves.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, this gym changed my life and likely saved it in ways I'm not even fully...
Read moreOTR is one of if not the only gym I’ve gone to and just felt, well, at home. As cliche as it may sound I never felt uncomfortable there, even if a lift looked bad or what not people where there to help or motivate.
As time went on the place felt like a family. Smiling faces in between sets, high fives and fist bumps, and shouts of happiness once you break your goal.

For the gym itself, the best way I can describe it is a mix between a mom & pop shop and a gritty bodybuilding gym. It gets loud, music blaring, and weights hitting the ground. You can find the normal equipment, a couple cardio machines, and then some more specialized stuff. It’s got the stuff you need for the different types people that are there.
You have everyone from bodybuilders, powerlifters, strongmen, athletes, and just the everyday gym goers (most people in there honestly). I never felt judged by anyone for what my goals were… and my goals jumped all over the place from the years I went.

Now for the owner, trainers, and staff. Short story short. They are all cool from the people I have met. The one or two training session I had were hard. The trainer definitely pushed me, but they also knew what I was capable of. So I needed the push to get through the limit I had in my head.

For the negative, it’s a bit on the smaller side. It never bothered me, but if it’s busy busy busy and the outside is a no go because it’s raining or what not it can start to feel a bit crammed. Even when it was crammed everyone in there was cool. If you asked something, I never ran into a person who got mad or anything./ but besides that… it’s my go to gym!
My 5 stars is about everything, OTR was a staple for me before I moved out from town. A good portion of my wardrobe is OTR apparel since I couldn’t take the gym with me I just had...
Read moreI started going to OTR Fitness for group classes. I then got into personal training with Malinda. She and all the trainers are great. They have helped me start and reach some goals I have had for my fitness and health. I really enjoy the atmosphere there. It is less intimidating than other gyms and the owner understands some people are nervous to start lifting. He and everyone there are very welcoming. I have made several friends and it’s great to have a place I feel comfortable going. I highly suggest this gym if you are looking at getting into lifting and big commercial gyms are...
