Update: August 2022
I went back to Mz. Jades new restaurant and it was more open and exciting to see she had expanded into a bigger area!
However... My experience was sadly not the same... I got the chicken tenders and the garlic sauce that goes with them and a side of mac n cheese. It was a slightly smaller portion than I was expecting however, I was excited to try the food. My chicken tenders were warm. Not hot but they just didn't taste great... They were okay.... They were dry and also lacked much flavor. Though the garlic sauce was really good on them. The mac n cheese was a little dry... It wasn't amazing but edible. And then the cornbread was also pretty dry and the butter/sweetness to it was very light. Again it was okay. Overall I was saddened by what I had. Our server was sometimes attentive but it took probably about 5min of standing at the door to even get noticed. And after that she sometimes was quick to refill our drinks other times she disappeared. At the time we went, there was only 5 tables or so with people at them too. There also appeared to be one other waitress as well.
I truly did love Mz. Jades Soul Food! It was great when I had it years ago... I also remember she had really good desserts too. And I really wanted to try one of her desserts again however, they did not have the desserts available the day I went they were sold out and then also did not have the habachi options available either...
Sadly, I am on the fence on if I would go back.... Everything that day was just off and wasn't a great experience for the price...
Original Post: Years ago Food was really good. I am not typically a fan of bone-in wings, however these had really good flavor and quite a bit of meat to them. The mac n cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy were also amazing! Also tried the corn bread which is a mix of sweet and just plain cornbread it was a nice addition to the food.
I am not one to usually get desserts at restaurants, however, all of there desserts are made from scratch. Made by someone who is passionate about her desserts which really shows! The Cinnamon chocolate cake had a nice flavor with a nice hint of cinnamon with neither being over powering Which gave it a wonderful taste especially for those not wanting something with a strong chocolatey taste. Where as the chocolate crack pie was absolutely amazing! It tasted like someone mixed brownie batter with a chocolate pie and it was fantastic! Very rich, very good.
The food was a good value for what I got. It was $10.99 for a dinner and two sides. The pie/cake was $3 a slice or $8 for a whole. All of those accompanied with very nice staff, It was all very much worth it. The menu may be small but the people who make it, did so with lots of...
Read moreBefore I begin with my review, I wanted to make it very clear that I went in with high hopes, and was very excited to eat here. I heard about what Mz. Jade did about that one Lebanon schools ice cream issue, and was very impressed with her generosity and heart for the community. That being said, I’m going to come from a strictly unbiased standpoint. And I can only hope that if Mz. Jade sees this, she doesn’t take it personally, but instead as constructive criticism for the future. As I’m all for supporting small, local businesses.
Today was me and my husband's 17th wedding anniversary, and we arrived right around 5:00 p.m.. There was barely anyone in the restaurant, and we were greeted, and seated quickly. It only took a few seconds for our hostess to take our drink order, but unfortunately, a lot longer to receive the actual drinks. Seeing as how this was me and my husband's first time there, we took a little under 10 minutes to decide off the menu. But before deciding on food, we were shocked to see the astronomical prices. We almost left. And in hindsight, we should’ve.
We started with the hush puppies (slightly burnt) as the appetizer. And it took them a good 15 to 20 minutes to get there. And by that time, the dinner rush came in, and the place was nearly filled to capacity. I ordered the half pound shrimp, and my husband the Cajun Burger. This took just as long as the drinks to come. And when food finally came, my mac and cheese was lukewarm, and the overall meal was satisfying to the gut, but left the palette yearning. I asked my husband how his food was and he replied “Meh, it’s alright.” After a disappointing meal, we asked the hostess to snap a picture (it was our anniversary after all), got the check, and headed out quickly.
As much as people rave about this place, the service was slow (as in our hostess, inattentive) and the food was slightly below par with chains such as The Olive Garden. All in all, after spending a whopping $80.00, we feel like this place was nothing to rave about. And considering the cons, along with the distance we drove (40 minutes), I regret we won't be back again until things...
Read moreLet me start by saying when I opened the door, the smell was amazing! We had reservations for 8 @630p and waited 1-3 mins as I noticed it was busy and everyone was smiling and laughing and more ppl were piling in behind us… The atmosphere was very welcoming and happy! I did notice smoke from the fryers filled the restaurant our entire dinner which she prob needs circulation of air as in a few fans up in the high ceiling or something to that nature to help, is why I gave only 4 stars for atmosphere… The menu is easy to read and just about everything comes with 2 sides… The mixed drinks were a little steep but after ordering, it was very good, good size glass and top shelf liquor mixture being very competitive with an upscale drink… Our waitress was very accommodating and great service, answering any questions and knowledgeable of the food as she was the owners daughter in law to find out… Our table was comfy for 8 and even had a 7yr old dancing to the great old school music I enjoyed as a teen! We had deep fried pickles and fried green tomatoes to start that were absolutely amazing! Our food came very prompt, and oh my! Every plate handed we all admired in awww at the proportions snd how wonderful it all looked! As I ate my salmon Pattie’s/greens/Mac n cheese and potatoe salad, my fav song played in the back ground, and it def took me back in remembrance of my earlier years, her recipes are definitely handed generations, and this is def all homemade and made with love! Best food I’ve had in a while! As we left, my father with Alzheimer’s and cancer was dancing out the door and down the side walk to our cars! Thank you, Soul Sister, MzJade for a great bday dinner in your wonderful warming restaurant! This is def a gem 💎 in Middletown and everyone should try this great soul food, you are missing out if...
