Great place to go for training, I am physically disabled with balance issues and use large to giant breed dogs for this issue, I have had service dogs since 2006, 1 thing people have to understand about dogs, is not all or just any dog is cut out to be service dog, it takes a special temperment, because a dog has to put up with alot, and you MUST be consistant with the training, and training a service dog is a lot different then training a pet, I have found that out myself over the years, the community automatically expects and holds service dogs to a much higher standard, a service dog CAN NOT be dog or people reactive or aggressive or protection trained in any way, Khara and her staff will help in any way they can and they DO NOT discriminate, they will do their best to help the dog succeed, I have been training with Khara since 2010, she is a wonderful trainer, and does anything she can to help anyone, just need to ask, my next service dog prospect is a adolescent German/Shiloh Shepherd, wish us the best, having to retire my 7 yr old Boston Terrier from his duties as a medical alert service dog, one thing with shepherds, they have a lot of energy, and therefore need alot of excersize, they are not a dog that will just be happy laying around all day. Go to ada.gov look up sevice animals or dogs, it will tell you everything you need to know. I have trained all of...
Read moreLucy and I started Scentwork at The Doggie Spot on March 3rd 2025. The photo below is from September 14, 2025. We have been training with Khara since the beginning and she has been fantastic! Not only is she super knowledgeable, but she shares that knowledge and helps teach you how to read your dogs body language. I didn’t “get it” at first and thought I would really struggle in this sport. However, Khara records us at trainings so I can go back to watch and learn from the practices. Speaking of practices, we don’t just practice at the building. We take field trips and go to parks and other buildings around town to introduce our dogs to new places and smells.
Aside from the training, they also have awesome high quality, reasonably priced dog treats that my 3 dogs love. I now have to buy treats monthly to keep the pups happy. They also have great sales occasionally so be sure to follow their Facebook page.
I haven’t used their groomer because my husband and I do it ourselves but they do offer a lot of other services like doggie daycare, all kinds of dog food, treats, Ruffland Kennels, collars, leashes and toys.
I would trust any of the ladies there with my dogs. They are all really wonderful and your pooch will be in great hands if you choose to utilize any of The Doggie...
Read moreThis is generally a good training facility; however, I am disabled with progressive MS and have strength and mobility issues. We had signed up for a class that purportedly would take us on some adventures in the community. The instructor apparently didn’t want a disabled person in the class and called me to arrange private classes to make up for it. I had a spirited German Shepherd puppy that I was training as a service dog. I had been using a prong collar to control him, but the instructor was pretty insistent I use a head halter. We arranged to meet in a park for a lesson. My husband had our bloodhound mix and I had my German Shepherd. The instructor had brought her dog. We had just gotten out of the cars and her dog bared his teeth at the bloodhound mix. My German Shepherd quickly moved toward her dog to defend the bloodhound mix, pulling me to the ground and fracturing my hip. The head halter was not enough to control my dog with my weak hands and poor balance. Sadly, 4 months later I still have significant problems ambulating after the hip fracture. If you are physically fit, this may be a great place to train. If you’re disabled, not so...
