We tried Theopolis for dinner at the recommendation of friends.
The place: The atmosphere was nice. Cute, cozy restaurant with a great patio. Our server was nice. It is SMALL so call ahead if you have a group. We made reservations for a party of 8 and were seated quickly.
Service: Service was just ok and definitely on the slow side. We promptly got water and ordered appetizers, but from there, everything took a long time. We didn’t place our food order until we had been seated for 35-40 minutes. We had to ask to order and ask for refills. I asked if the 3 tacos could be different meats on each and a friend asked if she could try a sauce, The server wasn’t sure about either question.
Food: Food took a while, even the appetizer. We figured most things were probably prepared to order, so we didn’t mind the wait for the food. We had kids with us, and there is no kids menu so they shared off of the main menu. Once the meal arrived, presentation was nice. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed by the taste of most of our dishes. We ordered a Charcuterie board and the Brussels sprouts to start. The Brussels were good. The board was very small for the price, but good.
We also got: Mac & Cheese- just ok. Not very flavorful and the burnt ends were very dry.
Tacos- pretty good. This came with 3 tacos and house made chips. The veggie was delicious and the chicken was quite good. The steak was chewy, but had a good flavor. I enjoyed the homemade chips & salsa.
Chicken and waffles: my 12 yo boys enjoyed these. The sauces were interesting, and they especially loved the house-made ketchup. The French fries were hand-cut and well prepared . This came with 3 small waffles topped with a chicken tender and bacon.
Burger & fries- looked pretty average. Decent size. Kids shared this and were pleased.
Philly- was pretty good, but not amazing. On the average side.
Pasta- was ok. The alfredo sauce wasn't as flavorful as hoped, but the puttanesca sauce was good.
Overall, for the price, we were not super impressed. It was just ok. We would try brunch, but dinner is not where it’s at in my opinion. It might be a nice spot to have drinks. Certainly a nice addition for Shawnee, but we probably won’t make the trek to visit again...
Read moreSocial media pics and Google reviews brought us to this restaurant. Highly disappointed unfortunately and maybe they were having an off day. Upon arrival mid afternoon on Sat. there were only 2 tables seated so not busy. We stood awkwardly by the door not for sure to seat ourselves or wait. A lady came around the corner and said ‘hi’ but kept on walking by then when she got to the entrance of 2nd room turned around and told us to follow her. The menu online is different than the menu at the table. The server brought us waters and stood at the table without saying anything. Just starred at us. I asked if we could order drinks and she took the order. We also asked to start out with pretzel bites and were told they were out. My strawberry lemonade spritzer was fantastic. My husband liked his margarita but it was not spicy as requested unless they count the Tajin on the rim. Cheesesteak was really good. Home cut fries were undercooked and soggy. Mac & Cheese with burnt ends was a disappointment. The pasta was very undercooked and nowhere near aldenti. The hatch chile sauce was bland. The ‘burnt ends’ were fried pieces of pork and some pieces all fat. I grew up in KCMO and now in TX and that is not our definition of burnt ends. As we were leaving, 2 employees were at the bar talking. Neither of them acknowledged us. Not even a thank you or come back soon. We enjoy trying new places and we really wanted to like this one but...
Read moreWe must have come on an off night. We sat ourselves, waited 15 minutes to be greeted. The owner (who we discovered who she was later) brought us menus, we attempted to order cocktails, but we were told she doesn’t take drink orders that is not what she does and our server will be out. We waited another 10ish minutes. We were brought waters by another person, and again told the server would be out shortly to take our orders. Server finally came, we ordered our cocktails and appetizer. Our appetizer was chips and queso, came out quickly and was really good. We waited almost 2 hours for our meals without drink refills or any sign of our server. I personally ordered the ramen, I do not recommend. The other meals ordered, burger, pasta, and Philly all looked great. The live music and ambience made up for the lack of service, food wait times, and the rudeness of the owner. The check finally came, there was an undisclosed $32 cover charge and beverages that were not ordered on our bill. We are always happy to support talent, but it typically is disclosed prior to receiving your check. I do recommend this place because the atmosphere is phenomenal, but the management is lacking. If a customer is going to wait 2 hours for food, keep their alcohol flowing. And no matter who is affiliated with the establishment they should be more than capable of taking a drink order for...
