My first visit to ALDI was driven by changes in my life that will cause me to change my grocery shopping habits of the last 20+ years. No longer will I buy most of my groceries at Sams or Costco as I can't buy in the large quantities required by those big box stores. I previously filled in my grocery gaps at Walmart. Because of the good things I'd heard about ALDI and my need to buy more things in smaller quantities, I decided I should go in and check it out. I was surprised to learn ALDI sold more than groceries. The weekly specials paper showed stuffed animals, children's toys and games, HVAC filters, and many other things. This may have been because Christmas is 17 days away but I don't know for sure. I was pleased to see things I usually bought in bulk to save a few cents per item at a much lower price and did not need to buy a dozen pack to get the price. I thought the selection of breakfast bars and cereals were large. I found a selection of gluten free pastas, cookies and other things. I was able to purchase several items that I'd needed such as vegetable oil and ground nutmeg. The produce was fresh and the selection was wide. I found several frozen items that I will buy in the future because the prices were very good and the packaging was not excessive (i.e. not a lot of plastic waste due to individual wrapping.) With my arms full with 6 items, I went to check out and I wasn't pleased to find only one register open with three baskets full of groceries ahead of me. After 1-2 minutes in the line, a 2nd register was opened to accommodate those of us who had only a few items. Now the 2nd best part of my visit, my total was $8.62! This was an average of $1.44 per item. The best part of my visit was learning that even though ALDI didn't accept any credit cards, I was able to process my debit card as a credit card which means I don't have to enter my pin #. Overall my first visit to ALDI was a success. I may have more to share once I use the items...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a truly disappointing experience with Aldi and Instacart for my recent order. I ordered around 15 items for delivery, aiming to make a special meal for my 3rd anniversary. The delivery was initially scheduled for 4 PM, and while the shopper arrived at 2 PM, they didnāt start shopping until 2:30 PM. I messaged the shopper and found out they were handling multiple orders, which I understand. However, I wish there had been some notification, as Iāve never had this issue with other stores.
By 4:30 PM, I grew concerned and reached out to customer service, which required creating an Instacart accountāannoying, but I did it. The rep was polite but ultimately unhelpful, only assuring me my order was on its way. By 5:30 PM, my groceries still hadnāt arrived, ruining my dinner plans entirely.
This isnāt the first time Iāve had issues with Aldi and Instacart. My first order arrived reeking of cigarette smoke, and I was simply told to wash it off, which is unacceptable. Overall, Iām very disappointed and wonāt be using Aldi or Instacart again. Consistent issues like these are...
