My Husband booked a room for me when I had to make a sudden drive to Sherman for our daughter who was a student at Austin College. I got in (after a 7 to 8 hour drive) at about 1AM. The Gentleman at the Front Desk sent me to a room that: A. Was Handicapped (I am not. Someone else who was could have used the room if they came in. Also, NOTHING online indicated this was a Handicap-Accessible Room.) B. Thehumid. Room itself smelled horrible and was dank and C. The A/C didn't work. When I called the Gentleman at the Front, he came to my room and came in and tried to fix the A/C unit by unplugging it and re-plugging it in and messing with the breaker on the unit while I sat EXHAUSTED and awkwardly on the bed. It clicked on and I started unpacking so I could shower and get to bed. I had not even gotten my shower stuff out and the A/C turned OFF again. I called the Gentleman at the Front again. He came in and began the same method of "Repair." At this point I asked to change rooms. He said he didn't know if he could because they were pretty booked. I told him I was exhausted, road-weary, and becoming pissed off and I knew this situation wasn't his fault and didn't want to start saying rude things so, PLEASE - KINDLY move me to another room. He left, came back, and said he had another room for me. I lugged all of my stuff down the hall. It was about 1:45AM by this point. He opened the door into... Another Handicapped Room. I heard the A/C running and bid him farewell. I started to unpack. The A/C stopped. I called him again. He came back. By this time, I was pissed. He offered a box fan. I said some words but at that point was too tired to care. He brought said box fan. The box fan blew the dank, stale, hot air around and around. I got down on the ground and fiddled with the A/C. I got it to start! I sighed in relief and stood over it and let the cool air blow against my body and face. I showered, got out, and the A/C was OFF and it was HOT. I sat FURIOUSLY, in a sweat on the bed and thought...
BED BUGS!! We stayed here a few weeks ago on our way to Oklahoma due my husbands truck breaking down. There weren’t many options but we have stayed at many La Quintas with no problems. Check in was easy and the lady was very friendly. We got to the room with our kids and I normally always check for things like that but we were exhausted, which was my mistake. I was awaken around 2:30 am due to exteme itching and found out it was due to bed bugs, which I’m allergic to (I found that out from a bed bug incident at a La Quinta in Longview) and was breaking out into hives on top of the bites. I collected some in a cup and took them to the front deck. The man at the desk was very helpful and got us into a new room allowing me to thoroughly check it before moving my family and gave us the night for free. He had told me that there have been at least 4 cases of bed bugs there that he has known about. I was told by a different man in the morning that if I had to go to the dr for the allergic reaction to let them know and it would be taken care of. I ended up having to go and be put on a steroid and antibiotics due to 2 spots where the bites were turning into cellulitis. I called to speak to the general manager. He then proceeded to tell me that they didn’t have a problem and said that we must have brought them in with us, which I know we didn’t. I have documented proof from both La Quinta incidents and the documentation from the doctors. There were also a TON of bed bugs when I turned on the light to see what was going on. The general manager was supposed to get in contact with corporate about the situation. I never heard from corporate or the general manager. This happened on Nov. 13th. It’s January 2nd. I have allowed plenty of time. Take precautions and make sure to thoroughly check your room before staying. Better yet, stay somewhere...
