Review: Terrible Customer Service Experience at Menards – Disappointed and Frustrated
I’m writing this review to express my complete frustration with the terrible customer service I received at Menards after purchasing a gas-powered Husqvarna weed eater on 05/10/25.
Shortly after using the weed eater, it began to stall repeatedly and was unusable. My receipt clearly stated that I had until August 2025 to return the item for a refund. Around two weeks later, I brought it back, hoping to return it and get my money back—especially since my older weed eater performed better than this brand-new one.
When I explained my situation, I was met with resistance. A woman named Terri told me I needed to take the weed eater to a local service center first, to confirm there was no gas in it and to see if it could be repaired. I told Terri that the gas was drained out of the tank and there was no gas. I also explained that the receipt didn’t mention anything about this requirement and reiterated that I simply wanted a refund.
Thankfully, a kind and helpful employee named Megan initially offered to process a store credit. I accepted that resolution. However, when she attempted the return, she needed manager approval. That’s when the situation took a turn for the worse.
Josh, the Assistant General Manager, came over and firmly denied the return, again insisting I take it to a service center. I pointed out that the receipt clearly stated I had until August to return the item, but he stood his ground, saying “that’s our policy,” and that I should have read the fine print before purchasing. I was shocked by the lack of flexibility and respect. When I reminded him that Megan had offered the return, he simply dismissed it.
Then Angie stepped in and asked me where I had purchased the item. I said “Menards, in Tipp City.” Her immediate response: “Take it there,” in a dismissive tone. She continued to be short and rude, not just to me but to other customers waiting in line.
Despite all this, after nearly 15 minutes of arguing and being treated disrespectfully, Josh reluctantly processed the return—but not before continuing to be rude and condescending. As I left, I told him I’d never buy another gas-powered item at Menards, and truthfully, after this experience, I’m close to never shopping at Menards again.
I’ve been a loyal customer for years and have spent a great deal of money at Menards. I don’t expect perfection, but I do expect to be treated with respect and integrity. What I experienced from Josh, Terri, and Angie was anything but. Megan, thank you for being the only bright spot in this entire frustrating situation.
This was a disappointing, stressful, and completely avoidable experience. Customers...
Read moreI shop at Menards all the time, Princeton, Lima, Tipp City, Miamisburg, & some at Sidney (no more at Sidney). I stopped in and got 30 2 x 4’s and a few things inside. I had a tractor on my trailer so I stacked all the wood along the side of my tractor. I was trying to get to my campsite before the rain so I stopped in at 6 AM sharp, the guard let me through no problem to get my wood, but when I went to leave and nobody else was there, he was very lackadaisical about checking the wood. I asked him if he could please pick up the pace. I want to beat the rain? I literally sat there over five minutes for 30 2x4’s just to have them tell me I didn’t stack them very well. Then he went on to tell me I needed to open my tailgate. There was no reason for me to open my tailgate. He didn’t check what was in my bed on my truck prior to me going in. How would he know what was in there? I was then told I cannot leave until I did open my tailgate. Obviously, this infuriated me so I called the manager in the evening and they were extremely argumentative about it. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had at a Menards and I would void this one like the plague if you can.
On the flipside inside the store, they were extremely helpful. When I say avoid the store is, if you have to go around back to pick anything up, my experience with their guards has been the same every single time. No other store treats you like this and I shop at Menards almost on a...
Read moreMenards lost a lifelong customer today with the final straw in a long series of events. To be fair, menards has good pricing on some things, but in general you absolutely get what you pay for, here being no exception. Over the years and this year especially, the employees at this menards seem to have lost intelligence and can’t answer the simplest of technical questions with regard to tooling or anything. Then, earlier this year pre-covid, I encountered a very rude check out attendant who began scanning the next customer before I’d even had a chance to bag my own items and had to sort through mine and the subsequent customers. I asked for help bagging and was told she was not allowed to help bag. I reached out to corporate over the incident and never heard a word back. Today I had a $600 cart full of goods and when I got to checkout was informed that my facial covering was not sufficient for them to be willing to check me out and that I would need to purchase one through them. This is the same facial covering I have with me every place including hospitals. There’s no intelligence amongst employees or managers, it’s like dealing with the phone company back in the day. My menards card historically does about $4,000 in purchasing per year there and it...
