I was in need of a new furnace since my original furnace was 35 + years old. I received a quote from the company who services my furnace which I thought was way too high for a new furnace. I also asked friends about the quote and they too thought it was too high.
I then reached out to Marshall’s Services for a second quote and the first time I contacted their office I had a good feeling that this would be a great experience. The customer service representative took down my information and told me someone from the office would be contacting me. At first I thought it would be a sales person, but it was the owner of the company, Glenn Dickey Jr. who contacted me. He was just as pleasant and helpful as the customer service representative when I spoke to him on the phone.
He came to my house and explained the cons of my old furnace and the pros if I got a new furnace. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does and about furnaces. He explained the different options and price points of the different furnaces that Marshall's offers. I felt no pressure from Glenn about purchasing a furnace from him and we both agreed that he would come back and explain the same thing to my wife. Even though it was his second time explaining everything to me, he was just as passionate and helpful the second time around. After Glenn's second visit, my wife and I decided to go with Marshall's.
George, Parker and Adam came to my house to install the furnace. All three installers were professional and friendly and any time I had a question about what they were doing they were very informative. When the installation was done, George reviewed the furnace with me and informed me about what to expect to see and hear. Adam who installed the digital thermostats answered all of my questions and showed me how to use them. When they left, they made sure everything was cleaned up.
We highly recommend Glenn and his team for being a very informative, trustworthy, and friendly...
Read moreTLDR: I was charged $249 to get scammed into thinking I had to replace my perfectly operating forced air oil furnace.
The longer version: I needed to get my 13 year old furnace maintained and inspected (it had been performing very well for the 4 years I lived in the home) and I called Marshall thinking that they were a reputable company. I was paying $249 for the tune up and inspection of my forced air oil furnace (they couldn’t test the air conditioning part because it was too cold, but that would have cost $150 more) which seemed high but fair since I wasn’t a current customer.
The technician was 4 hours late arriving and spent about 3-4 hours at my home “inspecting” my furnace, drilling several holes in my air ducts, and completing paperwork in his vehicle. During his visit he emerged from my basement proclaiming “you’re going to have a coronary” then he explains with extreme dramatic effects how unsafe my furnace is, not repairable at all, and I am in danger of my house burning down. The report stated that my unit was performing “outside of manufacture specifications“ but did not provide any numerical data. The report also stated that my furnace was 20 years old which was incorrect. He stated my furnace was inoperable, not repairable, my whole heating system had to be replaced, shut off my oil, and he would turn me over to a “comfort advisor” for more assistance. This all happened the Monday before Thanksgiving and how it all unfolded seemed very suspicious to me and made little sense.
According to Marshall, I had an inoperable furnace for weeks at this point and a “comfort advisor” has never once reached out to me. I eventually got a second opinion from another company who inspected, and provided numerical proof that my furnace was performing well within manufacture specifications, and said “you froze for nothing” in response to Marshall condemning my furnace.
STAY AWAY from Marshall and their dishonest business practices!!! Spend your hard-earned...
Read moreBen came out within 6 hours of my call to Marshall's. I was amazed again by Ben's ability to figure out what's wrong and solve a problem so efficiently. He has applied his incredible wealth of knowledge about furnaces and his extensive experience working with HVAC systems to every problem I've ever had with my heating system! Today Ben came out to fix the clicking sound which began about a week ago when our furnace blower turned on and the oil heater ran. Ben asked to go to where I heard the sound the loudest in my first floor powder room. After cycling the furnace on and off a couple of times, he got down and looked into the vent where the sound was. There Ben could see the problem - a small plastic medicine cup was tapping on the metal cover as the force of air came from the furnace blower. That little cup must have fallen into the open duct before the vent cover was put on 30 or more years ago! So Ben took the cover off, retrieved the tan with age cup, reattached the cover firmly and solved the problem. We were both surprised that after all those years, the cup had gotten blown into a place where it could tap on the vent cover like that! Even when my original problem was fixed, Ben, who is very thorough, went down the basement, opened the furnace and visually checked the blower unit making sure it was in good working order while he was on the job. Whenever Ben has come to resolve a problem with my heating system, he has patiently answered my questions in clear, precise explanations. I appreciate his willingness to explain how my furnace functions so I can recognize problems and manage the system better. Ben has also advised me about what improvements are needed in the future so I can plan ahead. I am very glad to have Ben and Marshall's...
