I was excited to finally try the newly remodeled Giant food across from the Bowlero on West Bard. I went at 11am on Monday morning (8/26/2024). I was disappointed once inside. The floors are concrete, which is fine but they left them filthy before sealing them in. So you're greeted with an overall feel of dirtiness. Not something you want in a place you're buying your food. I had always sought this particular Giant location out before the remodel (forgoing others closer to my home) because they have the ScanIt! app in use. Which, if you're unfamiliar, is not unlike the scanning wands that you can scan your purchases as you shop EXCEPT you scan with your cell phone. I'm not a germ-a-phobe, but it's quite clear they never sanitize/clean the wands they offer in-store. So when I attempted to log in to the store wi-fi (which is required to use the Giant Food ScanIt app) I received a message along the lines of this store location may not support this app. So I went to customer service to ask if they support it. I was told they suggest using the in-store wands. I said, yeah I don't like using those as the handles aren't very clean. The guy literally just shrugged and started to walk off. He didn't offer a suggestion of: "we routinely clean them" or attempt to help me get the app working. I said so does this mean you do NOT have the ScanIt App anymore, you used to? He kept walking off. I did figure out on my own that I just wasn't fully logged into their wifi, I had to go through the agreement page to accept that it's not secure. So seems some customer service training is needed as this guy either didn't know about it, didn't know how it worked or how to help me get fully logged in, or didn't care. No matter which, he needs training on at least the very basics of being nice to customers. Shopping I didn't find most of what I routinely purchase: they only had the smallest size of the Tide Free & Gentle Laundry detergent, they had no Fage Yogurt cups (0% plain) yogurt, they had no large spinach wraps, they only had 2 of the 3 teas I wanted to purchase, they didn't have any ripe bananas (all were extremely green). When I approached the deli counter to order some meat I was ignored by staff as they chatted about some gossip. It was a store employee on the same side as teh counter as me chatting with the person behind the counter. No one acknowledged my presence so I just stood there quietly/awkwardly waiting fo r them to finish. When they did, the person behind the counter walked off! I kept standing there watching while she attended to something with her back to me before turning around and finally saying hi to me. I was pleased they had the "no salt added" Boars Head Turkey meat that I had ordered for the grocery pick up order the past three times and was always refunded bec they claimed not to have any. Check out was smooth and fast thanks to being able to scan and bag my items as I shopped. There were plenty of self check out lanes and a Giant employee was there to assist shoppers and was actively engaged. I suggest if you plan to use the ScanIt app, to ask whoever is working the self-checkout lanes because they have to know about this app to help you if you're tagged for a random...
Read moreAs a customer, I find this to be the most obtusely organized and manipulative grocery store I've ever been to. The products are arranged with no purpose than to confuse the customer and keep them in the store. You can't find anything intuitively other than the produce at the entrance to the store. The prices are outrageous - it is entirely necessary to have the club shopper card, otherwise, you'll be spending an extra 25% on your groceries. Also, about 2/3rds of the check out lines are "do it yourself" machines which are practically impossible to operate without calling for employee assistance. I've worked a numerous grocery stores myself throughout the years, thus I think I have some right to say this is an awful store. I would say I hope they are replaced by some other chain, but it is clear they are quite successful at preying on those living in the adjacent apts with...
Read moreExcellent new store with aisle listing items . Employees are cordial and always will answer questions about merchandise in the store. The manager has the store very efficiently running. Mike in the customer service department is one in a million. He's the best. All cashiers are pleasant, and make sure that the bags aren't too heavy to carry and ask if you need help loading your vehicle if they see that you might need help. There are employees outside to help if needed to load heavy items. People need to appreciate the great service in this historical location. The store is always immaculate and in order. The workers who do stock in the isles always make sure that they're not in the way of Customers passing by to get items off...
