I want to preface this by saying this review will be detailed.
When I moved to Somerville two years ago, I thought I’d found the perfect spot at Glow Beauty Bar. It was my one-stop shop for nails, pedicures, hair, makeup, lashes, and more. I even brought my husband here for his first facial. Initially, the service was incredible, and the staff were exceptionally talented.
Highlights:
Ashley – My Nail Expert Ashley was phenomenal. She took my nail ideas and elevated them beyond what I could imagine, every single time. My nails always lasted, and my appointments with her were filled with laughter and great conversation—it was like therapy. Unfortunately, Ashley is no longer with Glow Beauty Bar, which is such a loss for the salon.
Juliana – My Lash Guru Juliana introduced me to lash extensions, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. She explained everything—from different techniques to aftercare—and ensured I felt confident about my decision. Every session was tailored to my needs, whether I wanted to relax, chat, or listen to music. She made the entire process seamless, and the results were always stunning. Even after the appointment, she was readily available for any questions or touch-ups.
Luisa – My Hairstylist Luisa worked wonders on my hair. I have thin, fragile hair due to medical reasons, and I’m usually cautious about who touches it. Luisa cut my hair in layers and left it looking fuller, shinier, and bouncier. She exceeded all my expectations.
Angeles – Nail & Pedicure Expert My first pedicure experience at Glow was unpleasant—I was cut badly and hesitant to try again. However, I gave it another shot with Angeles, and I’m so glad I did. She ensured my pedicures were perfect and made the experience enjoyable. She even gave my husband manicures, which he loved.
Why I Stopped Coming
As much as I adored the services and the talented staff, my experience with one person—Racheal—drove me away. Her lack of warmth and unprofessional behavior made me uncomfortable. I witnessed her speaking to staff in a condescending, almost bullying manner, and even overheard her talking about staff members in front of customers. It created a tense environment that ruined what should have been a relaxing experience.
I went as far as booking appointments on days I thought she wouldn’t be there, but it wasn’t sustainable. A beauty salon should be a sanctuary, not a source of drama.
Final Thoughts
I miss Glow Beauty Bar and the amazing services I received from the talented staff. However, I can’t justify returning unless significant changes are made. Specifically, I wouldn’t come back unless Racheal is no longer part...
Read moreI originally started going to Glow beauty bar in Somerville to get my nails done by a tech I loved there- Ashley. She was amazing. So kind and could perfectly capture the design you were envisioning. Ashley no longer is apart of the team at Glow beauty bar, so I stopped going for nails when she left.
They also seemed to have a lot of scheduling problems such as putting Ashley would be there at 10:00 (when i'd scheduled the appointment) but they would have scheduled her at 10:30, leaving me to wait a half an hour in there waiting room, whilst rushing her on the phone.
I called one day to schedule an appointment to get my roots done, when I called, I was greeted by an older sounding woman on the phone. I explained to her my current hair situation and she recommended me a "single process service" , then taking my deposit of I believe 80$ (total service wasn't supposed to be over 200$). I then came in and had my hair done by Lucia (I believe her name was). She did a wonderful job on my hair and it looked STUNNING when she was done. The hair was not the issue. When I went up to pay, I looked at the register and saw a total of 280$. I had already paid 80$ so you'd understand why I would be confused seeing they wanted almost 400$ from me total. The woman at the register then explained to me why my hair actually ended up needing a double process and plus toner and all this other stuff. I told her how if my hair needed a double process, I would have liked to been informed about that before they did something that would end up being almost over double what I had planned on paying. She then told me that her Mother was the woman I spoke to on the phone, and had made a mistake in informing? I'm honestly really not sure what the confusion was, but making a mistake in business and then blaming your Mother isn't a great look. She ended up just charging me for the single process (what I thought I was going to pay/getting the whole time) and toner. Overall ruling is don't expect your clients to be hair experts. That's why people...
Read moreI was super excited to come here and get my nails done but I was disappointed in the end. To start, I'm not sure if the girl who did my nails was having a bad day (which is understandable I'm in the service industry so I get it) but I was uncomfortable the whole time. I'm not sure if there was a problem with scheduling because another girl came in and mentioned she moved an appointment to 3pm (mine ended at 2:45). It felt like she was rushing and ended up cutting my pinky cuticle badly. I then went to pay and she charged me $114 and then claimed she didn't see I paid a deposit. I did find this a little odd because I had a friend have a similar situation happen at this location with the same girl. I agreed to have the extra $45 that I paid be used for my next session because I did love the nails. However, two days later the chrome on my nail had completely come off so I went back in to see if they could fix it. I went in around 5:30 and the same girl was there. I told her about the chrome and told her I knew it was later in the day so I could come back tomorrow. She said all she could do was apply another clear top coat which she did. It would've been a simple fix to reapply the black polish and chrome and there was no one else in there. But again this girl looked like she could care less again. I did like the salon and all the other girls seemed really nice but I won't be coming back. My friends have had nice experiences at the Cranford one so that may be a better choice. Girls wanna go to the salon to do some tlc and feel welcomed, not like...
