I wish I could post zero stars for this review!
Against my recommendation my wife took her great grandmother's canary diamond ring to Kevin Bear to have the band changed and resized back in November 2020. He did not provide any claim ticket or documentation showing that she had dropped the ring off which I immediately thought was unprofessional.
When she went to pick up the ring she noticed that the sides of the ring where the new band was attached showed obvious signs of the repair and you could see a seam with the naked eye! I personally took the ring back and explained the issues directly to Kevin and he agreed to correct it.
After several weeks I picked up the ring assuming that it was now properly repaired. The ring was destined to be a Christmas gift for our daughter so we wrapped it up assuming that the ring was fine and gave it to our daughter on Christmas day. When she tried the ring on she immediately noticed that the center stone was loose! The stone was definitely not loose when it was dropped off to have it resized and we were dismayed as to why the setting had even been touched since the work we had asked for was related to just the band!
Upon further inspection we noticed that not only was the center diamond in danger of falling out, but the one side of the setting had also been melted! It was evident where he had soldered the new band on the ring and there were still seams easily visible on the side of the ring where he attempted to meet the original and new metals. There were also areas where the new metal had not been properly smoothed appeared lumpy. I could have done a better job with a soldering gun!
At this point we had decided that Kevin had done enough damage and we went back to see if he was willing to refund any of our wasted money on his poor workmanship. Kevin was unwilling to provide any form of compensation for the over $400 we had paid stating that "he had done the work"!
We subsequently took the ring to a qualified jeweler who informed us that Kevin had used White Gold on the ring that was actually made of Platinum! Obviously Kevin does not even know his metals!
I would not use Kevin Bear to sharpen a rusty lawn mower blade let alone work on any fine jewelry!
A WARNING word to the wise, avoid this guy like the PLAGUE! He is NOT a "Trusted Jeweler" and is just a...
Read moreAfter several years of relying upon Kevin for great service, today was the exact opposite. Waited 5 weeks for a watch that he "sent off" because he doesn't do the internal work that was needed. He said it would take about 3 weeks and gave an estimate. I made it clear 5 weeks ago that I wanted it fixed no matter the cost. Today I was told it was back and that I had said in a phone call that I did NOT want it fixed. Kevin claims he called and spoke with me and after giving an estimate (he gave one when I handed over the watch) I said not to repair it. But he never spoke with me in the 5 weeks and I have no record of him having called. He had no record of when he called or what the estimate supposedly was. When I drove to his shop to pick up the watch, he immediately left out a back door, leaving someone else to give me the watch and charge me $26.50 for shipping! I don't know what actually occurred during the past 5 weeks, but none of it makes sense and his reluctance to even speak with me today while charging me and not doing the repair indicates something suspicious or dishonest. I won't return and will warn anyone who suggests patronizing...
Read moreMy reviews keep getting removed so I think it's even more important to write one. I had the most unpleasant experience trying to sell 22k gold here. The worst and most lowball offer I ever received. When I sold gold to him, he said he only works in pennyweights and would not be able to tell me what that is in grams - a simple google search could tell you that. Just a rude and really terrible experience. The first time this happened, I was leaving on vacation and did not have time to go to someone else. Last week, I wanted to test the process again and he did disappoint again. His offer of $915 (gold value of $1900) was about $700 less than the best offer received locally and $500 less than the worst offer received locally. I didn't and won't ever conduct and further business here. In general, I would stay away from this place. I have been buying and selling metals for over 10 years, which you could see from my original account review that I left since all my reviews are connected there, which was deleted by...
