I ordered meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. A bowl of New England clam chowder. A cup of coffee. I asked my server as to how the meatloaf and mashed potatoes were to be served. She told me the meatloaf was served on top of the mashed potatoes. I informed her that that is not the way I wanted to be plated up. I wanted the mashed potatoes served on the side with a pocket and a pocket was to be filled with the gravy and I wanted gravy on the meatloaf as well. When when the food was brought out they followed my instructions to the letter and the plate looked great. Now to critique the food itself. The meatloaf needs to be worked on. Looks good but lacking in spice and taste and the consistency of the product itself needs to be readdressed. The gravy was good. Mashed potatoes need spice. I believe they need to find out where the spices are in the kitchen and then use them. The presentation of the mashed potatoes and the meatloaf and the gravy were really good. The New England clam shower too thick again lacking spice. I should not have to be adding salt and pepper to any of my foods. Suggestion taste your foods prior to serving them. Coffee, I asked the waitress to please bring me a taste. Being a chef I am fussy with my coffee. To my surprise she brought me a taste finally a waitress that actually listens. The coffee I would change it to a better grade and a dark roast. Secondly, never serve coffee in a cold cup. It infuriates me. I only want a half a cup at a time because the coffee gets cold. I don't like cold coffee. So far as the waitress is concerned could not ask for a better waitress. She was spot on. She was attentive. She asked questions and then she delivered accordingly. On a scale of 1:00 to 5. I give this young lady a 10. Would I go back again? Absolutely good atmosphere. Love the service. The servers are extremely attentive and the cooks in the back listened to what I requested so far as a serving of the food was concerned and they delivered it. That tells me how they're good and they just need some guidance on some of their foods that they're preparing and show them for crying out loud where the spices are. Your Friendly Food. Critic PS; final note l always check the bathrooms prior to ordering my food. It is my professional opinion that if a food establishment is paying attention to their bathrooms cleanliness and maintenance they're doing the same in the kitchen. I've been doing this for 50 years so I think I know what I'm...
Read moreI had been wanting to come here for a while because I heard the food was good but always forget about it because I mostly go to places that are in downtown Carlisle. Finally, I stopped for dinner in a Tuesday evening in August.
I did wait a few minutes for a hostess. They were pretty busy and they maybe thought I was waiting for someone or that someone else was helping me. Once I was seated the server was with me quickly to get me a drink and then to take my order.
I got the grilled halibut dinner that came with Parmesan risotto and it was so good I could have licked the plate. It was served with a side salad and bread. They were good too but that meal was delicious.
I came back the following Wednesday and had the citrus glazed salmon with sweet potato fries and green beans. This was very good as well. The fries may be the best sweet potatoe fries in town.
Prior to my dinners, I had only ever had tried the cake but including that her me as well. The triple chocolate cake is amazing. People have told me I need to try the coconut cake and I am certain I will do that.
Both times I was here for dinner the servers were friendly and attentive. The prices are comparable to other restaurants in the area.
They have a big dining area and an outdoor patio.
I thought this would be more of a diner atmosphere but it is not. It is more similar to other sit down dinner restaurants. The vibe is easygoing. There is no bar - not sure on any byob.
The quality of food here is excellent and the service...
Read moreMy family and I stumbled upon this restaurant for the first time today, after having visited Carlisle, PA for about 30 years now. In all of our travels out this way, we have sadly never come across this restaurant. When we say this has to be one of the best restaurants, if not THE best restaurant in town, we truly mean it. From the friendly faces behind the front counter, to the waitresses and waiters at each table (especially Josie who served us), to the diligent kitchen staff, and the owners (Steve & Cindy), everyone contributed to us having an incredible evening. It’s clear to see this restaurant has it together, works together, and strives to serve nothing but top notch quality to every customer - you just have to see it for yourself.
On top of amazing service, we had incredible meals including the Parrot Salad, Fish ‘n Chips, Homemade Soup, Chicken Stir Fry, and the best Keylime cake we have ever had. We would easily drive a few hours for that cake; needless to say, everything was amazing.
We cannot say enough great things about this establishment and the entire crew who keeps it up and running. If you’re in the Carlisle area looking for an evening to remember, please stop in to Momma Spriggs Restaurant - you won’t regret it. Thank you for serving us so kindly and we will be back,...
