Aydin is at the Davis location. He just reached purple belt: Aydin was emotional and very sensitive kid. He was shy too. We moved states, schools, changed nannies and houses when he was 5 (he is 7 now). He really had a hard time with all that change. His dad decided that Martial arts classes can help him with self confidence and he could make new friends too. With that hope, we signed him up. First six months, even though he was learning the routine, attending classes without exception, he still struggled. He would cry before he went there and some days he didn’t want to go. But everything changed one evening when we were at the belt ceremony (pre covid when parents could come freely). We saw bunch of kids wearing black uniform perform. We didn’t know the difference between black & white uniforms and when asked we learned they were the leadership team. Aydin was impressed with their equipment, unity, passion and commitment. He asked his lead instructor (Brian) if he can do the same. He was told you can’t just buy into leadership team. He needed to do well to earn the invite. And that was the moment everything changed about Aydin. While we were driving back home that night, he just opened up and said “mom, I want to be a leader. Can I?”. We said “ you can be anything you want to be as long as you work hard and earn it. It will not be an easy task but work hard and give it a try”. Rest is history, his entire attitude, commitment and excitement changed over night. That shy frustrated kid disappeared and a new disciplined kid showed up practicing on his own everyday. He started to do chores around the house. His mood changed. He started to teach other friends and his brother everything he learned. He started talking about becoming an instructor one day. During Covid he literally practiced at our home gym everyday and attended classes virtually. As a kindergartner reading was hard but he stood up and read in front of everyone. Not shy anymore either. His self confidence blossomed. And recently, he attended his very first competition and brought home 3 medals. He is going strong and absolutely full of joy! As his parents, we could not be happier. This was our vision for him. And he surpassed our expectation in a year. He is in great shape. Literally developed 6 pack stomach muscles, strong legs and arms. He can do push ups like a young man! Even in the park, he is on the monkey bars flying around on it. Solid! All we can say is THANK YOU! Best decision we ever made for him. And now his little brother Kaan joined too. And they are practicing together playing Therapy by Timmy...
Read moreOur oldest son, Gage, is 8 years old and he was adopted from foster care when he was 15 months old. When he was born, uhe was heavily drug affected and we have faced many developmental challenges and delays, such as autism, hearing loss, adhd, ocd, etc. He spent the first 5 months of his life in a prenatal intensive care unit fighting for his life, being weaned off drugs. We have had him in many therapies his entire life, and with his many challenges he has had to overcome, he has also had to overcome bullying from kids who just see him as different and an easy target.
His cousin invited him to check out a martial arts trial at Reveal Martial Arts a few weeks ago. Gage does not like PE because it is challenging for him and usually needs a teacher to give him extra help and assistance. I was nervous, but hoped maybe with his cousin being there he would be open to trying it out. The first class went much like his PE...he immediately shut down, stopped talking and cried the whole time. But Mr. Garcia never gave up on Gage and neither did Ms. Moore. By the end of his trial class, he got his white belt, tears and all. I signed him up, thinking maybe we would give it a month. Next class came around and he told me he was nervous and not sure if he wanted to go...but he went with his dad anyway.
The whole class he did PHENOMENAL. He was encouraged by Mr. Garcia and even other classmates who had much higher color belts. Not once was he ever picked on or made to feel uncomfortable or unwanted.
Now he has been 4 times and loves being in the front and his kicks and punches and form are fantastic. Weve never seen him try so hard. At the end of his class, he earned his first yellow stripe. He was beaming. He came running up to me and yelled, “Mom, look, I told you I would make you so proud of me!”
I cannot thank Reveal Martial Arts enough. To take a frightened, low self esteem special needs child and help him flourish the way you have in such a short period of time has given this Mama so much gratitude and hope for a promising future ahead for our son- giving him the confidence he needs to succeed.
If you have a special needs child, dont hesitate like I did, run and sign them up here. You wont regret it!
Thank you. Respectfully, Niki...
Read moreMy 5yr old had some trouble with coordination and core strength and though he had been begging to go to karate since watching several TV shows with ninjas it was when his doctor recommended we go through with it we decided to look for a studio. We went to 3 different highly rated studios in the area and helped our son make a list of the good and bad in each to decide where to go. He chose Reveal not only because he liked the structure in the class (it's not just a glorified gym class, they actually learn technique, real marital art forms and respect for one another without being cobra kai like) but his first class he earned a stripe for his belt and the self pride in that act alone was convincing to try it out. The classes are small which I think is good because they really focus on the kids and gently adjust each into the lessons when there's lack of focus. They also do fun challenges like obstacle courses before class, and they have a leadership program in which older kids have to sometimes co teach the class for the littles; it reminds me of the scouts where kids help other kids by example. After just a month of classes, our son's dr has been incredibly impressed with the strengthening of his coordination and his spatial awareness. I love the positive reinforcement in the class. When ever they bow to each other they always say "Yes I can!" There's also a parent's group online that is great for asking questions and hearing uplifting stories as well. The owners are very responsive and willing to work with you if you have budget constraints because it's obvious they want your kid to be empowered and enjoy the class than take your money. Great place and clean as well. Highly...
