Everyone who works here is a volunteer. They all are so incredibly friendly and helpful. There are many free events at the Tivoli. As it is, movies and snacks are very affordable. So, you can take the whole family without having to take out a loan!
Update: This theater is open now (March 2021), and following COVID guidelines (at least, trying to). Unfortunately, as I looked around the theater, I didn't see very many masks being worn. I know people have to adjust for eating and drinking, but it was more than that. There actually were a couple people in the concession line without any masks at all.
The sign on the front door explicitly states masks are REQUIRED. They only open the doors to 1 family at a time. They take everyone's temperature. They make an announcement before the movie that masks are required. So, how is it that I saw at least 80% of the people in the theater unmasked?!
The people working at the Tivoli are volunteers. It is "above their paygrade" to have to babysit selfish people who take advantage of the leniency of the mask rule for eating and drinking. It doesn't matter if you've had the vaccine. It's the LAW.
If someone actually walks into the building without a mask, they should NOT be allowed to enter. If someone is standing in the concession line without a mask, they should be DENIED service. I'm nearly positive there's at least 1 paid staff member at the Tivoli. That person (unfortunately and sadly for them) should be notified of these LAW BREAKERS, and those people should be dealt with accordingly.
The Tivoli is a FANTASTIC place! It's the only open theater around. The people who work there are trying very hard to give the community an enjoyable experience. Stop ruining it with...
Read moreThe Historic Tivoli Theater has a mountain of history behind it, and the recent restoration by Owen County Preservations and Cook Inc did a remarkable job of keeping that history intact.
I've been here for movies, plays and concerts of all sizes, and the mainly volunteer staff take pride in providing a quality professional experience for every show. For movies, you can't beat $5 a ticket, and that's not $5 for a movie that's been out for a month, they carry plenty of opening day movies as well as major current hits. Not to mention the free movie nights sponsored by local groups and businesses that happen throughout each month.
Concessions aren't going to break the bank either, unlike most major chain theaters.
I'll put it this way. I don't go to other theaters now and drain my wallet for a $12 ticket and $30 of snacks. I can take my family of 5 to the movies here for $25 for all of us and still be able to get everyone drinks and snacks without being depressed the whole movie about the cost.
If you haven't been, check out their schedule and come over...
Read moreI had a great time at your lovely theater watching The Beatles Hard Day's Night! I am embarrassed to say that I don't remember the name of the name of the woman/MC that was nice enough to offer to hold tickets for our party as we drove from Indianapolis! That is what I call customer service! The theater is a beautiful testament to the preservation of historical buildings, particularly movie houses. I loved the velvet curtains that pulled back to reveal the screen after the announcements were made! I loved the starlight in the ceiling! I loved the "Let's All Go to the Lobby" cartoon (but wish there had been some cartoons/shorts before the movie!). Also had a great experience at the wine bar next door. All in all, one of the best evening's entertainment I have had in a long time. I wish I lived closer so I could...
