The inside of the apparel and gift shop at the Zag Store in Spokane is massive. I cannot believe how much gift and apparel merchandise can be packed into one space. I was pretty stunned at how big it was, but considering how large Kentucky University is, I totally get it.
The back of the store has a textbook section, which was surprisingly small considering how big of a university it is. I come from the perspective of working at the bookstore at SDSU (Aztecs), and the textbook section there was easily three times larger. But I don’t think that’s the point of this store. It’s all about the apparel and gifts.
There’s no lack of choices here, and the staff are quite friendly. They’re all college-age students working college jobs, and that works just fine. The carpet is comfortable, and it’s not too loud inside. It’s easy to drop in and get whatever apparel or gift logo item you want.
Where the store is located is a bit deceiving, as the sign that says Zag Shop is actually an arrow. It’s on the far side of the building away from Hamilton Street.
Do not park on the street. It is quite difficult. There’s a nice large parking garage on the south side of the building.
I am debating whether I want to have one of my thriller fiction characters come from Gonzaga. That would be an interesting local tie-in. The bulldog logo is especially memorable and fun. The basketball team is always entertaining to watch, so it makes a great character connection.
The entire building is carpeted in a uniform commercial gray. Completely unremarkable and not distracting. It’s clean, well-lit, and feels comfortable.
It was interesting that they had QR codes all over the building for students to scan for their book orders and university connections. I’m curious how many students actually come into the store versus ordering online and receiving...
Read moreHad an OK experience coming in today. I checked out at around 5:30pm today. The lovely lady helping me today was absolutely so helpful from the moment I walked in, to the moment I swiped my card at checkout. The reason my rating is a 3 star is due the rude lady that intervened in my trasaction since the woman helping me had to take a call since she was the only one working the registers. I’m assuming the lady that intervened was the manager and if I’m right, you need to rethink your zag shop management. My brother is an alum and I was picking up items for him to take back home and I remembered he may get a discount so I was trying to see if I could show he was and MAYBE get the discount. So when this rude lady asked if we were being helped I had told her I was checking with my brother on the discount before I checked out and she told me he has to physically present showing them he is an alum with his card which is fine and understandable. It’s the TONE of how she spoke to me that was not customer sevice oriented. Also, as I was shopping around, I heard how she spoke to the lady assisting me and another worker and she is not a pleasant person. Sorry, I don’t care if they are students or presidents, correct your tone and check your manners. To the lady who assisted me, thank you so so much for the help and...
Read moreI’m an alumnus of Gonzaga University and recently used an Alumni Association discount code to purchase a shirt from the Zag Shop. My order was processed, and payment was completed at the discounted price. However, a day later I received an email stating that I was being charged more than what I had already paid—without any clear explanation or authorization.
I attempted to contact the number listed in my order confirmation emails, but that call was unproductive and did not result in any resolution or clarification. Was just told they have no idea why I was charged more after placing the order getting or getting two different totals. And to note, I never requested a refund or to have the shipping costs refunded, etc. I tried to get clarification on the two different bills and basically dealt with a lot strange and vague communication from 3-4 different people which never seemed to be on the same page or never bothered to do any due diligence on my initial inquiry.
Unfortunately, this experience aligns with past issues I recall from my time at GU over 20 years ago, when the bookstore had a reputation for questionable billing practices (such as not honoring sales tax exemptions for Montana students,...
