After relocating fro California to Las Vegas I needed to find a psychiatric Doctor. Due to our insurance plan we did not have but a few choices to select a psychiatrist. Mental health is crucial to a healthy life after dealing with trauma and other life changing situations. In California we had a great insurance plan that allowed flexibility when choosing a dr that will be crucial to overcoming some bad life experiences.
primarily the psychiatrist will be there to learn about you and will set up a regiment of one or more medicines that will ideally help calm your nerves. Other medications can help with breakthrough panic attacks.
It is crucial to be brutally honest with your doctor. Failure to be honest about everything will lead to subpar outcomes from your treatment.
In California we had access to private practice doctors and therapists. I had no idea what a difference seeing a private psychiatrist and therapist made on my treatment.
After our relocation I asked our insurance rep for a list of in network doctors.
I learned about MANAGED CARE. This type of treatment is very impersonal. The doctors and therapists have a structured and inflexible treatment plan they are required to follow.
I would see my psychiatrist once every 3 months. We would spend no more than five minutes together. No face contact no critical questions were asked. The therapy was even worse still.
I had finally had it. This was wasting my time and I saw no significant improvement.
Trying to be honest did not matter they were not really interested.
I made the decision to pay out of my own pocket and went searching for a professional private practice doctor. Private practice allows the doctors and counselors much more flexibility. They are not tied down to a nationwide huge corporate ideology whoās mission statement revolves around increased profits. I am NOT bashing mental health care at such a place as Harmony health.
We reached a point in life where we could afford to pay cash. Donāt forget to ask for any cash pay discounts
I am so thrilled to have found Dr Gupta. Others have mentioned that Dr Gupta takes time to get to know you. He interacts. His follow up appointments are worthwhile. He actively listens. He asked appropriate questions and involves you in your care.
BUT - you must be brutally honest so that he can help you help yourself. Failure to share everything with the Dr is only hurting yourself.
I have provided him with my life story- the good the bad and the ugly. No judgment is ever shown. He truly does care. He does not make you feel inferior. One unhealthy behavior I have is pathetic to me. Dr Gupta put me at ease and explain how I am not alone and I would be surprised how many affluent people are suffering too. What. Great approach
He is compassionate and empathetic. At the same time he will call you out.
Bottom line- YES I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI started seeing Dr. Gupta around 3.5 years ago. I was diagnosed schizoaffective and had been on my own for two years (my family abandoned me after my first psychotic episode), in and out of mental hospitals 8 times, and I was actively psychotic.
I had seen many different psychiatrists but none of them could get me stable. I was deeply suspicious of mental health workers in general after all the abuse I experienced in hospitals and at other doctors. Most psychiatrists are all about the money and don't care about patients at all.
I had been off medication for at least 6 months when I went to see him. I couldn't stand the side effects and the previous "doctor" broke my trust (turned out he was actually just a nurse practitioner! And I had no idea). I don't remember everything, but he got me to trust him and to really give the medication a chance. That is not something most doctors could do at the time, I don't know if anyone else would have managed it.
He saw me through two more major psychotic breaks. One time I came into his office convinced the CIA was the other patients in the lobby. He handled it very professionally and well, so when I regained my sanity a few weeks later I didn't feel horribly embarrassed like I usually do, which also makes it a lot easier "to come back".
I chose Gupta after doing a bit of research on Psychiatry, when I discovered that Indian's are basically on the forefront of Psychiatric Medicine. They are the most advanced country when it comes to psychiatry and it really, truly, shows.
He is fantastic, warm, friendly, genuine, and caring. I have now been stable for 2 years and we are slowly weaning me off some of the medications I am on.
We haven't really ever discussed my diagnosis, because it isn't that important. I think I am actually Bipolar 3, and I was simply traumatized into severe psychosis. That is something Indian Psychiatrists understand that western Doctors don't.
Western Doctors just label it "schizophrenia" and treat it all the same. They tell you that you will never be able to live without being heavily medicated. Let me tell you, that is no way to live. Definitely take heavy medications and deal with the side effects to get stable.
It might be a few months to years of hell. After that the medications can be changed and reduced, in some cases you can probably be weaned off completely. Eastern psychiatry shines a light at the end of a dark tunnel.
Gupta saved my life. I don't think I would be alive today without him. I trust him and I will suggest him to anyone who asks - Especially in the case of someone with a severe psychotic disorder. I feel like if he could save me, he can...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was referred to Dr Gupta from my long term psychiatrist of about 12 years who cannot Take my insurance any longer. I have been on my current medications for 7 years and have been stable. My first visit was with Dr Gupta, who would only see me if I decreased my Xanax to 3mg, vs the 4mg I have been taking for at least the last 7 years. He seemed thorough... he kindly asked me if I masterbated more at certain times.. I suppose that was ok due to my bipolar diagnosis years ago. My only concern was to try and change my medication of Latuda, which was costing me about $350/mo, even with insurance. He recommended changing to Lamotrigine, stating only that is does not cause weight gain.
I was then passed of to his PA, Isabella Osposka. During the course of about 3 months, she steadily increased my dosage of Lamotrigine to 300mg. She also only prescribe 2 mg of Xanax. She asked me if I had nightmares, which I occasionally do. She proceeded to tell me that I do not have anxiety, but that I have PTSD. I do not have PTSD, no flashbacks or nightmares of any trauma. She stated I will be taken off Xanax and that there will be a med for PTSD. ??? Unfortunately, I have had some serious side effects from the Lamotrigine. I called yesterday and left a message for Isabella at 9:15AM. She did return my call at approx 7pm. I was trying to explain what I was experiencing (which was indicated on my pharmacy sheet), but she seemed very impatient, and just told me to reduce my dosage to 200mg and āweāll see what happensā. I woke this morning with even more severe side effects, just one being terrible pain in all my joints and muscles, (I was crying due to the pain, which never happens), along with several other problems. I called her office this morning to seek advice, and was told that I would have to make an appointment, that she would not take my phone call. At this point, I do not know if I should go to the emergency room, or just āsee what happensā. I am unable to perform my basic household tasks, and I canāt drive myself to the ER due to the pain. I just donāt...
