On 5/15 I had the unfortunate mishap of spilling an entire cup of coffee all over the keyboard on my laptop. After throwing a towel over it and panic shutting it down, I did everything I knew, and read on the internet, to try and keep the coffee from getting too far down.
After doing some more research, everything recommended that the unit not be turned back on until it was cleaned as coffee is corrosive and the sugar from the creamer is sticky.
Springfield PC Pros was the on of the first companies that came up and seeing that they had such good reviews and were a 7 day a week company, I gave them a call.
Tim was polite and professional, telling me up front about how much it would be and that yes he could come collect the unit the next (5/16) afternoon.
I was a bit dismayed when he was late for our appointment, though he did call and let me know he was running late. I was also more dismayed when he let me know that the cleaning would probably be an additional $50 over what I had been quoted on the phone the night before. However, not having much of a choice as time was of the essence, I agreed and sent him off with my unit.
There was absolutely no contact all of Sunday and into Monday morning. I finally received an email Monday (5/18) afternoon about 1 PM telling me that my unit had been successfully taken apart, cleaned and was now going to be drying for an additional 24-36 hours.
However I got a phone call from Tim about an hour later telling me my unit was ready to go and he would be delivering it the next evening. When I asked about the email I had received, he told me that he had been behind on his messages because he was so busy and that one was actually from Sunday.
I received the unit back on Tuesday (5/19) evening and paid $199 for the deep cleaning I thought I had ordered.
Almost immediately I noticed that a good 2/3 of the keys were very stiff and very little bounce back like a regular key would. I called Tim the next day (5/20) and he assured me that that was normal and to give it a little bit longer, they would loosen back up.
After using the unit for a couple more days with no change in the keys, I gently pried off one of the worst of the stiff keys and the underneath of the key, the plastic hinge plate and the surface underneath were all coated with sticky brown residue. As were all of the other keys that I took off. After cleaning them with alcohol and cotton swabs, they worked just fine when put back together.
So...while Tim may have saved my motherboard, I would think the deep cleaning I paid for would have also included the cleaning of the actual keyboard. Especially knowing that coffee had been spilled over the keys.
tl:dr: I paid for a deep cleaning and received the unit back with the underside of the keys still coated in coffee residue that I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI paid for an expedited service, it still took over a month for the parts to come in. While they were transparent with me on how long it might take, I still wish I never came and got my laptop 'fixed' here because it came back with more issues than before.
And while I can't pinpoint exactly where the damage came from since it passed through several hands before being back in my possession, it was still frustrating how long it took them to fix the one issue I came in for.
I paid two expedited services. The first expedited service was to get the laptop checked out. The second expedited service was to get it fixed once they got the parts. I wanted it done as fast as possible that's why I paid twice for fast service. Still took them over a month which is way too long imo. They also try to push you for upgrades and such even if you don't want or really need them. And they asked for my password to log into my laptop even though the part they were fixing doesn't require computer log-in to fix it. They said it's to do a free desktop cleaning but I don't see a difference in how it runs now compared to before.
Edited post twice
Trying to say the parts came in early while still taking a month before the issue was fixed doesn't change said fact of the matter. And also, I'm pretty sure that they were actually DELAYED according to an old text I found on my phone. Even if everything else the company refered to might be 'reasonable' my answer is NO, I am not interested in coming back.
Also, saying they wished they could address these issues prior to leaving a 1 star, I did actually email them to talk about the new issues and they replied similarly to what I mentioned in my initial review,
That #1 they assumed the new damage came from elsewhere due to passing through multiple hands before being back in my possession.
And #2 that while they're sorry to hear about the new damages, your average computer tec would easily be able to fix them.
Edited a third time
Pointing out the new damage is redundant to what my post was all about. I've already established that there's no proof they were at fault for the new damages. The broken screen wasn't the only thing wrong, some of the keys on the keyboard were no longer working, but again, no proof of where the damage came from hence why it wasn't a main point in my review.
My post was mainly about how long it took to fix my first problem. Why they felt the need to try and say the parts for it came in early (when they were delayed) just goes to show that they know a month to fix a laptop is too long. And yes, I know the reasoning is waiting/shipping and not the actual working on the laptop itself. It was still a LONG process and not worth the expedited...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am completely new to the PC world. I have been a console gamer my whole life and decided to build my first PC. I watched a YouTube video to decide what parts I needed and then I ordered all of my parts. I have no experience building a PC, and because all the parts cost over $3000 it felt safer to have someone with experience help me out. I took my box of brand new parts to Computer Innovations and had a terrible experience. I then took the build to ubreakifix and had an equally terrible experience. I was given no information and they charged me an outrageous amount and my PC was still not running properly. So I gave up and played on my poorly optimized PC for a few months until it started crashing every game I threw at it, even old super easy to run games. I ended up just letting my brand new PC sit for months because I didn't know how to fix it and I didn't trust anyone to help me because of how much time and money I had already put into it. So after about 6 months I decided to give it another try. I started searching yelp and Google for a reliable, trustworthy, and professional place to help me out. Thank goodness I stumbled across Springfield PC Pros!!! After seeing all of the positive reviews, I nervously brought my PC into their shop. I immediately felt so much more confident when they started asking me very specific questions about my issues. I felt like I was actually being heard and the questions they asked definitely demonstrated their knowledge. They also told me what they thought the issues could be and explained some things to me about how PC's worked further demonstrating their knowledge and expertise. I was kept in the loop and updated every step of the way. Then when the issue was resolved, I came into the shop and they hooked up my PC to further teach me some more things and show me what the issues were, as well as let me test everything out to make sure i was fully satisfied and had no further issues! They answered all of my questions and made sure I was completely comfortable, confident, and informed before I got to take my PC home. When it was time to pay, I was absolutely shocked that they only charged a very reasonable service fee and did not seem to upcharge at all for parts!!! In conclusion I could not recommend Springfield PC Pros more! They are extremely professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy, helpful, capable, and affordable!!! You genuinely could not hope for a better or more stress...
