I really wanted to love this place and was so excited to visit for my first time. I read up a lot before going and I’m aware the area is not the best but I felt comfortable going with a friend as everyone online talked about how they generally felt safe. I would like to preface this with the fact that I was expecting some level of riff raff and malarky to go on.

Starting from the top when we arrive around 11pm, we wait 30 minutes in a line outside to get in (Peekaboo and Ayybo so I think busier than typical) when we are almost to the front of the line - shots rang and something whirred over our heads and ricocheted off a car and the brick building. All I will say is fireworks don’t ricochet like that.

Additionally a several person fight broke out and tornado’d towards the back of the room and we were close enough to have almost been collateral damage.

Then 15-20 minutes later my friends pockets get felt up, when the “feeler” moves past him unsuccessful in finding anything in this pockets.. my friend noticed it was one of the guys that was in the fight?!? So I guess the people who fought were not removed from the venue.

Mississippi Underground I am absolutely begging you to invest in one or more Big Ass Fans for the indoor room. The amount of hot CO2 in that room is suffocating.

Overall, I’m really disappointed. I was so excited for last night and was so hopeful for many more nights in the underground but unfortunately left early bc we were just so uncomfortable here due to the violence and the sauna. I understand that you cannot control the neighborhood and I do not blame the venue for a systemic problem we have in St. Louis but I have not seen anyone post about this and want to heed warning to potential first timers. This is a warning that you won’t hear distant gunshots, there’s a potential to have it fly right past you or worse….

I hope this does not come across as “holier than thou” or as someone who didn’t know what they were getting into. I knew the risks before going but after having gone I don’t think I’ll be returning. To my fellow EDM fans, remember to keep PLUR alive in all that you do and everywhere you go 💖

Positives: the outside area is SICK, I love the lasers and the suspension bridge combo. Visually everything inside and out is great. I see the vision and respect it!!! I love the local artists showcase and the self serve water jugs are much...

I really, really liked a lot of aspects of this place and the event I went to was AWESOME. The whole vibe was pretty great. Parking was easy, close by, and safe. Security was around to keep it on the up&up. Water was cold and available. Lights were beautiful. Sound system was good, though there were some pretty harsh hot spots. Bathrooms are alright - but make sure you bring something along in case the toilet paper runs out!!

However... I can definitely see how this place is an absolute no-go in hot weather. The reason being is the lack of ventilation. What got to me was cigarette/cigarillo smoke. Once one person lit up inside, everyone and their mom suddenly did, and for awhile it was escapable when you moved... until it wasn't. With under two hours left to go in the night, my husband and I had to leave due to the entire air being a fog of cigarette smoke. I have pretty intense asthma and allergies with cigarette smoke being one of the triggers (and I didn't take my Singulair that night like a fool). As well, my husband had gotten over an upper resp infection recently, and the smoke gave him a pretty horrible cough which he still is dealing with. We were INCREDIBLY bummed about leaving early, particularly because we never leave a party early! We wanted to see the last DJ in particular, as well.

I am begging MU to do one of two things: Buy a big room HEPA filter and set it by the couches OR knock out one of the higher windows and put in a fan that exhausts the air outdoors. If you ain't gonna stop people from smoking indoors, at least try to mitigate it. PLEASE. I want to keep going to...

The venue itself is cool and I love Materia. But like others have said, it's at a sketchy location and is super hot. They're now trying to bring in big names for big name prices and it's not worth it.

Saw Peekaboo and the sound quality was awful when I've seen him live 3 other times. I don't know why the main stage is inside when it's so hot and dulls the sound (also doesn't sound that bad during materia).

Usually there's enough water but they ran out at the main bar during peekaboo. There also wasn't as many water stations as usual.

It's a warehouse so bathroom doors don't always work since they're made of plywood. Sometimes the 3 are unisex sometimes not depending on security.

You'll want to Uber or at least not leave your car there overnight. They have security but the area and some of the people who attend is who you want to watch out for.

Positive: I love all the vendors and food. The people and vibes. What energy you put out is what you get. Just remember to take care of yourself.

I'm not exactly sure how downright entertainment expects to host big names here until it's fixed. I'd rather see Flux Pavillion and Space Wizard at The Factory or...

parking: security with a flashlight directed us where to park when we pulled up, and i ended up parking pretty close to the venue. there is also a parking lot a little bit behind the venue as well. entry: there was a nice bonfire going outside when we walked up, tickets and IDs were checked, etc show: i was at a small show with local djs, plenty of room, boiler room style, random couches and tables to sit on, full bar, and nice vendors who were selling kandi and glassware against the wall. sound system provided was great. oh the main floor the temperature was perfect (50 degrees outside at the time) but they don't have heat so in other places it was cold. water and cups were provided in a jug at the bar. security: i personally felt safe and everyone who was there was clearly there for the music, and they had a few hired security guards roaming all night overall: definitely one of my favorite venues in st. louis so far due to the unmatchable vibes and that sick warehouse rave feeling. 10/10 would go again
