Maruichi is a Japanese grocery store located across the street from ShopRite and Stop&Shop. It’s a little bigger than Daido in White Plains, NY, but much smaller than Mitsuwa Marketplace Edgewater, NJ. They have a pretty extensive dry goods and frozen food sections, and prices are reasonable as well. The meat and produce sections are a bit on the small side, but you can always jut go across the street to the two big supermarkets if you need something. There is also a small café (outdoor seating only) and a variety of home and beauty goods on the small second floor loft area.

It’s very similar to Daido, but if I were to compare the two, I think that at Maruichi, the prepared foods are more interesting and higher quality. Overall, they carry a more extensive range of almost all items as well. They also carry a small selection of artisanal food items (e.g. nodoguro and flying fish dashi packets, tsukudani, etc) that you won’t find at Daido. I also think that in general, the prices are better at Maruichi. The produce sections are about the same. At Daido, I think the fresh seafood/meat section and their sushi (prepared next door by Sushi Tatsu) is better. Also, given that Daido has an outpost of Parisienne Bakery located in the store, the baked goods tend to be more varied and better there as well.

Regardless, Maruichi is a very nice, well-priced store that is well worth the stop if you are looking for Japanese...

Amazing!!! I love this store!!

Accessibility details: note for other wheelchair users or folks with mobility issues, the second floor (cooking supplies, stationary, beauty section) is only accessible by stairs. There are 2 accessible parking spots, a dropped curb, and an accessible bathroom. The first floor probably has enough room for a (small) manual chair (very tight), no room to turn around in the aisles. I would not think power wheelchairs would be able to maneuver the space. I would recommend going during slow hours if you use a mobility aid. They have hand baskets and small shopping carts available to use. Staff and patrons are not masked, no COVID mitigation (for immunocompromised folks)

They also dont take EBT.

Not necessarily bad things! Just want other folks to be able to plan ahead. This store is a real treat with hundreds of options and quality produce, a deli, and frozen food section. SO much packed into a small space,...

This place is AWESOME! They sell Japanese/some Korean snacks and ingredients so you can make better ramen, curry, katsu, etc dishes yourself. Their bean sprouts are WAY cheaper than the canned Stop& Shop fare. They also have a deli/restaurant where you can get hot food and Starbucks-y drinks. I got the yuzu lemonade with that pea additive that turns your drink purple. Very tasty! But the best part was their staff. The chicken katsudon was EXCELLENT, and on top of that I mentioned I had an onion intolerance and though I assured them I would be okay with the broth having onions in it, and that all I needed was the removal of the scallions, one of the cooks made the broth special without any onions at all! I was so floored, I bowed like the weeb I am to express my gratitude. I will DEFINITELY be...

This mid-sized market really packs a punch in terms of a wide variety of fresh, packaged, frozen, and hot Japanese foods. Have been here twice now and understandably the prices are a bit higher to have the convenience in Stamford but the quality is good. Very much enjoyed the bubble tea, made with discernibly quality tea and boba. Also picked up some nato on sale which was a tasty treat, as were the o nigiri triangles (all around $2). Will definitely be back to pick up odds and ends, and special treats. Very curious about the togo ramen broth by Brooklyn Ramen, hmmm....

Lovely market with a lot of variety despite the smallish location. They have a cafe and restaurant which was closed first thing when I was here but there was still some premade sandwiches that were delicious. Look forward to coming back and seeing the selection at the cafe when it's open! Update: the cafe is phenomenal with a great selection of drinks and snacks. Truly a must visit to anyone who enjoys Japanese food in the area!
