Mead's Bike Shop — Local services in Sterling

I was looking for a very specific bike, and could not find one in the Peoria area. I had called Mead's on a Thursday and asked if they had one in stock. They did, and agreed to build it for me so I could ride it on Saturday. Saturday came around and I took the scenic 2-hour drive to Sterling from East Peoria.

When I arrived, they had not built the bike, but they quite literally dropped everything they were doing and built it on the spot. My wife and I went out to lunch for an hour and the bike was ready when we came back. I ended up falling in love with the bike and it came home with me. I have never had a more pleasant and educational experience when buying a bike!

Not only did they build the bike quickly, but they stayed after close to change out some components based on my preferences. The owner took his time and explained everything to me, helped me load the bike into my truck, and I simply couldn't be happier. I had the option of shipping the bike to the Trek store in Peoria, but I much prefer to touch things when I buy them. Though, they will likely be my go-to for service due to locality.

All things considered, I am an incredibly happy customer and feel like I have made an investment that will bring me joy for many...

I traveled an hour to purchase a bike from Mead’s Bike Shop in Sterling and had a very pleasurable experience. I’m from a much larger city than Sterling with many bike shops but not one of them had the selection of bikes that I was interested but Mead’s Bike Shop did. It wasn’t just the selection that made me travel to Mead’s, I’ve been in other stores where asking questions seems like a nuisance or they just weren’t knowledgeable. I was actually recommended to Mead’s Bike Shop by another bike shop owner (not in my home town) and I think that says a lot. I called before I went to the store and was impressed not only with the quality of answers I received but the time he spent with me. When I was able to get to Mead’s, Bryce spent hours with me making sure I would be purchasing the right bike and most important I would have the right size and fit. Although I purchased a high end road bike, I could tell from Bryce’s personality that every customer would receive the same customer service. It was an easy drive and well worth it. The owner is a former professional bike rider and is extremely knowledgeable, you can be assured that you will get the right bike...

This is added to my original post in the second 1/2 of this review.. I have since been back to get set up with a bike fit adjustment and spring service. Again, my r has been top notch. I appreciate knowing there is a bike shop close by that has the expertise to service my investment but also provides excellence in customer service. Thank you!

I have now purchased two bikes this summer from Mead’s (one for me and one for my granddaughter) and have had a 90 day checkup. Each time I walk into one of the stores (Sterling or Rockford) I am greeted and made to feel welcomed immediately. The stores are immaculate and well laid out with well stocked inventory (even with supply shortages that still exist). All staff is friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable and have helped me get the right products to fit my needs. I would recommend this store to everyone I speak to about biking, and will no doubt continue to support...
