I ordered a slice of Oreo cheesecake and slice of Yellow Cake with Chocolate Icing from Door Dash. My order arrived within 15 minutes, since I live close to the bakery. I’m soooo freaking disappointed! I’m so sad, too. I wanted to love this place because I pass by the shop ALL the time. I was craving something sweet and gave it a try. The packaging was cute, my bag was neatly stapled shut and a sticker label was placed on the outside of the bag as well as on each dessert container. BUT the most important part, the dessert was not good to me at all. My first impression was the flavor. Something about the flavor is off and I’ve had many of Oreo Cheesecakes and Yellow Cake. It tasted stale or old, like a generic brand but worse than that. I really couldn’t pinpoint what it was about the flavor. Something is off with it. The icing was horrible! It has an okay sweetness to it but I just couldn’t finish it and get past the staleness. I was left with a weird aftertaste that I haven’t ever gotten from dessert before. The Oreo cheesecake didn’t have an Oreo on top as advertised so it wasn’t as “pretty” but most importantly, it didn’t taste good at all. Only the crust portion tasted somewhat like Oreo but there’s a flavor profile throughout these desserts that isn’t good. I’m not sure if it’s the butter or milk that’s being used but something is off. I wasted my money and threw it in the trash which is very unlike me because I’m a sweets fanatic and would never waste anything Oreo or chocolate at that! I’m disappointed. The reviews are so great but I see that they’re mostly for whole custom cakes which I haven’t had so maybe that experience is different. I stopped by after a google search for good bakeries nearby, this place had great reviews! I picked up some cheesecake and paid a pretty penny for each slice, so I was expecting some good stuff. The cheesecake was just not good to me, and I’m so sad about it because I wanted to like it so bad! I even put it away and tried it a little later, thinking it may have just been an after taste of the meal I’d eaten before. But no… sadly it just wasn’t good. How can I explain… it was dry and crumbly, which is not good characteristics of cheesecake which should be creamy and “melt in your mouth”-like. Because of the texture, it was hard to swallow, almost like sticking to your throat instead of going down smooth. I’m not one to throw away sweets - cheesecake is literally my weakness and even if it were basic, grocery store tasting cheesecake I could have at least finished it. But I couldn’t even finish this.

I see a lot of the reviews are boasting the cakes, I’m definitely willing to give them a try when it comes to the cakes in the future! However, the cheesecake was a 0/10 for me. I just learned about this bakery August of 22. Every time I've visited I'm pleasantly greeted, the staff is very attentive and welcoming. My first experience with Elf's was surprisingly good, I got one slice (bigger than a slice) of red velvet with icing. The cake was delicious with a light unique taste and most importantly it was moist, not oily. I didn't eat the red velvet in one sitting, tossed it in fridge and it was prefect the next day. Sweet potato pie was pulling at my heart I want to say it was top 3 I've had but it's definitely not #3 so i guess it's top 2. The pie crust was cooked and not burnt it held together when I picked it up to have a few bites. The sweet potato was EXEMPLARY no strings, not filled with white sugar, not bitter from seasonings and firm when forking but smooth when eating. After I had 1 mini pie I ordered 2 whole pies. I'm not going to make this 6 paragraphs but I've also had sweet potato pound cake, white cake, red velvet cheese cake, German chocolate (pecans in the icing 😋) and strawberry key lime cake. I loved them all and now when I'm eating dinner I save room for Elf's cake because it's that serious.
