This past spring (2019), I was watching a video on youtube (music video) when I saw an advertisement about micropigmentation! I became so excited and began to search more about this method. My search persuaded me that this method was my best solution. I searched for days to find out more about this solution about its process, cost and where to do it. While searching, I saw an ad about Scalp Designs. I searched about this clinic, John Toti (the owner) and his work and experience. As I concluded that John and Scalp Designs was the person and place to do my scalp, I made an appointment with John. With a feeling of confidence John gave me, I decided to do it with him! And here comes the process, the experience and the result: I have a large area of very little hair (specially crown) and scars in the back (despite 7 times of operation with Bosley). So, John had to do a vest and complex (scar) areas. He gave me an estimate of time regarding how long it would take to complete the process and the cost. I should say that the length of the time lasted longer than initially anticipated not because the work was not completed as explained to me at the consultation but because of me requesting more sessions as we made progress after each session and as I wanted to make it as perfect as possible. Please be advised that micropigmentation depends on the individual case, ranging from the size of the scalp to be covered, texture of scalp (as some scalp hold the micropigmentation faster than others), the desired density you want to have, if you have scar and how much of it, the amount of care you put into it after each session (avoid sun for a few days after each session or put a hat on) and overall your extent of satisfaction/expectation, as everyone has different satisfaction and expectation. This is really important to know about when you decide to do it! Some clinics estimate that 2 sessions or about 2 sessions all it takes to do it. DO NOT BELIEVE IT unless you have a very small area of boldness and coverage needed. John is a very friendly individual. He is patient and listens and works carefully and diligently to achieve the best result you want and expect. In the first session, he did it conservatively so to test how my scalp would react to the ink. I was kind of disappointed as I hoped to have a drastic result in the first session. This is very important because you do not want too much done on your scalp that you do not like. You do not want to go through that experience of reversing what has been done and definitely John does not want that to happen either. You can always add but can’t reverse what has been done. To reduce or take out what has been done is costly and painful (laser). I am sure you have done your homework and you already know about reversal process. So, that is why he started slow to make sure the process was taking its proper route. Every session worked on my scalp, more satisfaction I had. As more he did, more of achieving perfect result that I had expected initially became closer to reality. The cost is fair. Don’t take my word for it. It’s been a long time since I had a full head of hair, and did I ever have some serious flow until I hit my 30’s!!!

I’ve been giving myself a buz cut for 15 years, and I guess I’ve been wearing hats at all times for the last 10, regardless of dressing for the beach or a meeting. It just sort of evolved into that. Medications or transplant never made sense to me, and my head was thinning by the year. I was getting very self-conscious about it, and it made me look older than I am.

Don’t try and control the process, and don’t rush him. If you are neurotic - save that for your therapist and not your SMP artist! If you have some patience - trust John and his process. Saddle up for the multiple sessions and weeks it takes to achieve the hairline and coverage you want, and you will love the way you look, high-five John and look as young as you feel! I haven’t worn a hat in two months! My SMP hairline and coverage is a work of 3D art to the point where not a single person in my life realizes what I’ve done! I’ve been hearing a lot of “hey, nice Summer buzz cut!” and I feel great. Caution: if you go to an imposter or otherwise inexperienced SMP artist; rush the process; or get a ridiculous discount…well, you will look ridiculous. Don’t do that, do it right and go see John. The guy is talented, and wait until you see your face under a brand new...

Met with John after doing extensive research on SMP. He was very professional, explained the process and set realistic expectations. I felt confident that John was the right person to work with me. We had three sessions, each lasting approximately two hours +/-. I have a full head of hair with some thinning areas that were of concern. Also, my hair is gray and I was concerned about the darker color. John explained how this would look and that there would be no issues. I noticed a difference after the first session, more after the second, and even more at completion. This process is essentially painless and I experienced very mild itching one to days post session. I followed John’s instructions and washed my hair after two complete days. John was available anytime via text or phone for any questions. My hair has been cut fairly short and I am very impressed with the result. The thinning areas are filled in, hair looks fuller and the overall look is great. If you are looking for a professional who knows their business and provides outstanding customer service, look no further.
