Summary: Good features for consumer automotive needs, but be careful of cheap parts. Also, this location's manager is really not great to work with.
Detail: As far as consumer automotive needs, I generally like O'Reilly. I appreciate their evening and weekend hours, and their tool loan program has been super helpful to me over the years. I find that O'Reilly stores generally have the best employees.
However, I'm pretty selective about the parts I buy from them, as I've experienced their parts to be a somewhat lower quality. If I have an opportunity to avoid their store brand, I usually do so.
That commitment to avoiding their store brand was reinforced recently when I bought a store brand part that failed within a few months' time.
And, what's worse, the effort to get a warranty refund from this store on account of the defective part was miserable. I went in once, and the employees told me that I would have to come in again to talk with the manager. They also expressed that the manager yells as them when they do returns that he doesn't think are appropriate. They really seemed afraid of the manager!
I went in a second time during normal business hours in order to talk to the manager. He claimed that the defective part was not covered under warranty, and that he could not give me a refund. I kept asserting my view that it was covered under the published warranty. Finally, he took the part and literally threw it on the floor. He gave me a refund, but made several snide comments in the process and as I walked out the door.
I was glad to have the refund, but I don't like to work with people who mistreat their employees and their customers.
I spend hundreds of dollars a year at O'Reilly, but this store lost a customer in me. This city has four car parts stores, and I'll be shifting my...
Read moreGot a call from o'reilly Auto parts today complaining to me that the battery I returned yesterday was used and that they can't re-sell it. I bought it last year and put it in the jet ski and it died after 2 uses over a few weeks. I kept recharging the battery every time it died. I brought the jet ski to the dealership earlier this year to get checked out and it turns out the charging system was bad, and they gave me a correct battery for a jet ski. Dealership told me I had the wrong type of battery in the first place for the machine, even though the staff at o'reillys ensured me it was the BEST battery, it wouldn't die, and was made for these machines. I returned it to the store within a year of purchasing the battery which meant it was still under the warranty. I had no issues returning it after telling them it was the wrong battery for my machine. The day after i returned the battery I get a call from a manager at o'reillys telling me that I returned a used battery, and they're not supposed to take back used batteries. I asked what he wanted me to do about it, and he had no idea other than telling me that it was somehow my fault and that they would have to "eat the cost". So I guess the only reason they called me was to tell me I'm a bad person for returning their battery. Their employees should really know the company policy on returns, because I would've been fine if they had just told me at the store when I returned it that they don't take back old batteries. I guess I'll just cut up my o'reillys reward card and drive 1/4 mile down the road to Advanced...
Read moreI placed an order for curbside delivery today. My family is in quarantine because my daughter is high risk as defined by the CDC and her health team has advised us to be extremely cautious and to stay out of stores and public buildings.
I arrive at their parking lot and call them and let them know I am here for curbside and they refused to bring my parts out to the vehicle (even though online it said curbside is available by calling). The guy on the phone told me the reason is because there are only 2 employees and they were extremely busy and they couldn't bring it out to me TODAY. There was one other car in the parking lot and the store was dead. I was looking right outside looking in the window and there wasn't anyone around in sight. I think that this location is not accommodating and will no longer shop here. I will be making my future purchases at AutoZone or Napa from now on without hesitation.
I cancelled my order and called AutoZone down the street. They had my order ready and waiting with someone outside by the time I pulled in the...
