We’ve owned several houses with fireplaces and wood burning stoves, but we’ve never had a gas log fireplace. The house we bought a year ago is plumbed for gas logs but was never set up with them. We saw great reviews of the services provided by J.R. Bolton and decided to drop in to view their options in design and operation of gas logs. Jay Doig assisted us, explained available fire ignition types, showed us the three classes of gas logs available for our particular fireplace, provided us with a chimney sweep contact, and gave us a quote for the logs we chose. He was quite knowledgeable on his products and services and communicated very effectively with us so that we left very confident in our decisions. Customers like to have confidence in their choices of services. Given our initial meeting at J.R. Bolton with Jay Doig, we fully understand the positive reviews we’ve read and look forward to getting our new gas logs.
Moises Tinoco from J.R. Bolton came to our house and did an outstanding job of installing the gas logs. He removed the old piping in the fireplace, carefully vacuumed the area with his Hepa vacuum, and installed new piping that complemented the gas logs we had chosen. He carefully tested our gas line and valve to make sure that the installation would be safe and effective. He carefully laid out the sand and embers in the gas log tray and then distributed the ember granules around the floor of the fireplace. Next, he arranged the ceramic gas logs, lit the match lit gas logs, and then had me light them again under his supervision. Moises communicated his steps very well and made my confidence in using the fireplace safely his top priority. He is definitely a knowledgeable, engaging, and effective technician.
We couldn’t be more delighted with our gas log purchase and installation by J.R. Bolton!
New posting for J.R. Bolton Plumbing, HVAC & Fireplaces
Well, a couple of weeks after JR Bolton did such excellent work on our gas log installation, our attic gas furnace stopped working. Normally, just before Christmas, we would have been really worried about finding a repair. Not this time; we called Bolton! They promptly sent Byron out to take a look.
It didn't take long for Byron to identify the problem with the broken ignitor; however, the real problem was that the 21 year old furnace was failing in multiple areas. The cost of replacement of the ignitor, the blower, and of repairing the furnace to bring it up to code would be close to the cost of a new furnace. Then, I asked him to check our other 21 year old furnace. It was still running but had signs of a failing blower and ignitor as well. Byron was completely honest as he commented that there was little to be gained by replacing some parts on such old furnaces.
The next step was a Friday meeting with Ben, the Bolton Service Manager. We discussed the replacement of both furnaces, the features of the Amana furnaces he recommended, and a very attractive financing arrangement. What had seemed like a possible disaster turned into a workable improvement to our HVAC system. Ben is one of the most personable and patient company representatives I've met in a long time. He promised to get us new furnaces before our company came for Christmas and he delivered!
Two days later, Darryl came with his assistant to install two new furnaces. To me, it seemed impossible that they could complete the effort in two days, much less one. In fact, they installed both furnaces and new thermostats in about 5 hours! I watched in awe as they removed the old attic furnace, carried it down the fold-out ladder and the stairs to the main floor, and then took the new Amana furnace up. They expertly navigated very tight spaces with very heavy equipment. They left their work areas and walk areas through the house spotless. At the end, he gave me a tutorial on using the new NEST thermostat. Polite, professional, and knowledgeable are the immediate words that come to mind with Darryl.

Read moreNEW OWNER BE WARNED! I hired Bolton in April 2024 for a full HVAC system installation, and nearly a year later, the job was still not completed. They claimed the only thing left was to install thermostats and start the system. Based on that, I paid in full- trusting the work was complete. That trust was a mistake.
In December, when we tried to turn on the water heaters and HVAC for heat, my plumber warned me not to activate the system—Bolton had failed to vent the water heaters, and doing so would have released carbon monoxide into the house. Only after repeated calls did they come out and fix it.
At that point, I questioned everything they had done. Bolton had a strong reputation in the past, but since Anthony Mattioni took over, the quality and professionalism have completely collapsed.
When I told Anthony that the HVAC still wasn’t running, he and Larry Swafford came out and insisted everything was fine and working. It wasn’t. I then hired a licensed third-party HVAC inspector, who reported that $15,000 worth of work was still needed across the entire property: attic, main floors, basement, and garage suite.
Anthony saw the report himself and swore he would make it right. He acknowledged that the work was incomplete and even voiced concern about the gas lines his own team had installed, we even discussed getting the city to do pressure checks on the gas lines. He had also admitted that they were not capable of taking on such a large HVAC installation. But within days, he reversed course and claimed everything was “done” and that Bolton would no longer be involved. When I did speak to him he complained that it was too many hours for his crew and it would now cost him money to finish my job. He was no longer going to take my calls.
I now have emails, texts, inspection reports, photos, and videos showing the work was never completed and in some areas, dangerously done- gas leaks, wires in HVAC pans, vents going no where…
I was forced to hire and pay another contractor to finish the job. The dishonesty, lack of accountability, and potential safety hazards have been shocking. I would strongly caution anyone against hiring Bolton under its...

Previous service provided: Charles T. recently answered a weekend emergency service call for me, and he did a fantastic job! Charles kept me updated by phone as to when he would arrive at my home, and upon arrival he went to work quickly to assess the situation and make the necessary repair so that my air conditioning was back up and running as quickly as possible. Charles is very thorough, trustworthy and professional, and he took the time to explain what caused my air conditioning unit to stop running. I was so relieved to have cool air circulating through my home once again on a very warm day, and I will definitely continue to be a maintenance contract customer with J.R. Bolton Services. Thank you again for a great job Charles! I am so very grateful for your professionalism...
