This practice is DECEITFUL and SHADY! Beware! I have been going to Villalon for years for my oldest child without any issues. I added my daughter to my dental insurance in hopes to have a great first appointment with the same practice. When I made the appointment almost 2 months in advance, I asked if they still had my insurance information and if that was still accepted. I even made sure by asking them to read my member ID number to make sure it was accurate. When I arrived, they asked for a copy of my dental insurance which I provided before the appointment, this is in addition to already providing this information via their online paperwork.
My daughter had a great exam... sheās only 2 so this was to really ease her experience for dental visits. Dr. Manchaca examined her teeth, was told everything looked great and she had no cavities. He brushed and flossed her teeth and put a āvitamin pasteā which Iām assuming is fluoride once she was done.
When I went to check out, the receptionist charged me $212! I was completely in shock and taken aback as she has full benefits under my insurance and this was truly preventative care. I asked why I was charged this much, and the receptionist replied...āwell, your insurance may be giving you a checkā. I then replied with āwhatās changed? Iāve never had to pay this before with my son on the same plan.ā She replied with āwell your son was seen in December 2019, so maybe your plan changed this yearā. This made 0 sense and at lthis point, my daughter was whiny and drooling with the paste in her teeth, so I reluctantly paid and left.
I emailed my dental insurance that night and called Villalon the next morning to inquire abt my billing. The billing manager called me back and told me that I was actually out of network as they did not renew the contract for 2020 and that I was overcharged, but will refund me abt halfā$103! They upcharged or doubled their prices to exceed max payout from the insurance company and told me āinsurance didnāt pay for everythingā
It is extremely shady to proceed with services without notifying the patient that they are out of network!!!! They had my information well ahead of time and not even once, did they call or interrupt the visit to notify me of the changes. I have been a manager for an optometry practice and am now a medical provider and what Villalon is doing is extremely deceitful business practices. Patients out of network should be notified ahead of time so they can make the decision to cancel or proceed with the appt with the understanding and agreement of self-pay pricing.
In addition, their website was advertising their $99 promotion for new patients including exam, x-ray, and fluoride treatment. Soo I basically was charged double that ($212), even though my daughter never received x-rays. They completely up charge everything to my insurance company so they could double dipā get basically the same self-pay promotion out of pocket from me, then bill my insurance which paid them over $100 as well (I received a copy of my claim). ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen you think "pediatric dental office" a myriad of horrifying thoughts come to mind: drills, bloody gums, screaming children... you get the picture. Villalon Callis Pediatric Dentistry is the absolute opposite. The holy grail of dental offices. You and your little one will find yourselves wanting to stay well after the visit is over.
The office features tons of amenities for the entire family. The waiting area comes equipped with a theater room showing the latest films (e.g. Transylvania 2, The Good Dinosaur), and an arcade room with a futuristic 360° console that has everything from Playstation and X Box to Classic Nintendo games! And why should your kiddo have all the fun? For adults they offer massage chairs, TV with surround sound, gourmet coffee (and other refreshments), and complimentary wi-fi. The extremely kind staff and quick paperwork (done via iPad) will ensure that your first visit is pleasant and seamless.
Past the doors, out of the waiting room and into the dentist's office, you will find fully themed areas showcasing Disney and Pixar movies (I even saw some Harry Potter)! Stuffed animals, posters, toys, and full-sized characters adorn the office creating a sense of wonderment to put your child's mind at ease. My daughter went in for a general check-up in the Monsters Inc. themed room. The entire staff was so sweet to my little one, which made even the dreaded X-rays a breeze to get through. After X-rays, they reclined the dental chair so it was completely flat. Next came a pair of complimentary sunglasses and wireless headphones so she could watch a movie of her choice on the ceiling-mounted TV! Dr. Callis is a lovely young dentist who has a real knack for children. After deducing that my daughter had "the best teeth [they'd] seen all day," a hygienist came in and did a cleaning on her pearly whites. To my surprise, after the visit was over, I was handed a gift bag with a lovely customized water bottle inside! As we approached the exit, they asked if they could take a picture of Lily for their patient file. Again, they surprised us with a fridge magnet with Lily's picture that said, "Our Newest Star!"
Grown-ups aren't the only ones who get presents. After a happy visit, your child will get a goody of his/her choosing from one of the various free toy vending machines, and a balloon! And don't forget to grab a flavored chap stick at the checkout counter (I chose Strawberry Aloe Vera, but there are several other flavors). I swear, they give more free swag than an Elite Yelp event. My only complaint is that with so many wonderful features, it might be difficult to convince your child to leave! By the way, this dentist office only services kids.. I asked so you don't have to. I implore you to get your child in here as a patient before there's no more room. I promise that after just one visit, your child will have plenty of reasons to smile besides having...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been coming to this office for over 7 years. Over the past year it has always been something with them. 1st- I was informed that my baby could no longer participate in the whole family visits, she had to come at a special time and day. When I asked for the reason there was no proof or documentation to substantiate the change of placement. After attending 2 separate visits, I insisted that she be return to the same schedule as her siblings because it was a huge inconvenience to go back and forth ( Yes, I was making a drive because I like this office). 2nd - I took my other child for a routine cleaning and after the cleaning I was presented with a $180 bill (I have private insurance) I asked why was this visit so high and I was told because they had to complete x-rays. I informed them that in the future before they do anything extra to confirm it with me. 3rd- Here we are today 6/26/23. I have received several phone of calls and text message to confirm my appointment for today and after checking in to the front desk I was summons to the billing office first( this has never happened). I went and spoke to billing and was informed that the visit for today was going to be $514 (say what). What are you charging me for? She goes on and explain what the charges are for. I said maāam this is a routine visit I have never paid that amount for a routine visit. I asked if Iām out of network she responded no, itās because of the X-rays. I told her to cancel my appointment. I called my insurance to verify and was told they were out of network and the change occurred this year. I was not notified or informed back in January or leading up to this appointment. I talked to 2 different people to confirm my appointment and neither told me about the increase co pay or them changing plans. When I setup my insurance I paid more so my kids can continue to come to this place. Not to mention on top of the $514 I was told that I had another $186 balance for what? I asked for an itemize receipt and it was not provided. As of today, we are no longer patients here because...
