Wharton County Junior College — Local services in Sugar Land

I didnt know what I was missing out on until I switched over to HCC. Not saying HCC is perfect but you have way more class options and support for academic success is more easily found. Meanwhile this campus has very basic facilities, with most advisors being rude or just plain competent. I only had ONE decent professor, the rest were either rude, disorganized, or a combination of both. As it is much smaller than HCC, you have way less choices of classes and very few online class options. The front desk attendant Melissa can be incredibly rude to everyone around her when she's in a bad mood. Getting a hold of ANYONE on the phone is very very difficult.

The campus is borderline inaccessible by public transit unless you live on the commuter bus line or arrange a demand-response pickup from Fort Bend transit, Metro does not serve this area, meanwhile students have to pay for parking as well.

To add salt to the wound, Sugar Land residents do not get in-district tuition at any community college, not even this one. Only those who live in Wharton county or Needvile ISD zoning can get lower tuition rates as those areas are in the taxing county for WCJC. I would highly advise prospective students to see which local/community college can they get in-district tuition for and go for that instead. This campus was a waste of...

One professor last semester (my first semester in college) docked 7% of my final grade because I had a head injury and was on high grade muscle relaxers, which caused me to miss one of the 8 assignments due in less than the first week of class, literally the first 6 days, after having been caught in the middle of a highway shooting 2 days before the start of class, completely totalling my car, with the hood smashed all the way up to the dash.

This semester, which officially starts for me tomorrow, they cancelled a class less than a week before school started, told me to pick a new class, put a hold on my account barring me from picking a new one, and then shut down the entire school the day that they said they would remove the hold. I understand shutting down campuses because of the freeze, but I am unable to reach anyone in any way whatsoever. This will most likely prevent me from receiving a quarter of my monthly income...

Unhelpful staff. Everytime I go to the administrative office, they seem like they do not care. They always have a bad attitude. I am asking a question regarding of my concerns… I went to seek help within my administration process, I needed my pin, the lady had an attitude and seemed like she barely wanted to answer any of my questions. These questions have to do within my college pathway, why am I given an attitude for asking when this school is suppose to “encourage” us to ask for any help. I always go to the Richmond Campus to seek for help. Their staff is very friendly and always helpful, and they actually encourage and want you to come to them for any of your concerns.
