Dallas' Best Coffee Spots 😬 Finding the Truly Best Coffee

Today I was around Sugarland for an errand, and wanted some coffee. I always make a habit of trying local coffee shops, instead of the chains. Haraz looked interesting, as they were labeled as Yemeni coffee. I've never had Yemeni anything, and this intrigued me. The space is huge, and their is outdoor seating, which is cute. The decor is what you would expect for a coffee shop, nothing splashy. Ordered 3 items from the menu, all items I've never had. Adeni/Karak Chai, Baklava cheesecake, and Harazi Mufawar. The cheesecake was delicious. Not as sweet as I had feared, as baklava is a sweet syrup drenched dessert. This is a must try. The Karak Chai was as expected, though heavy on the cardamom. I think some would especially love that fact if you love cardamom a lot. Now the coffee was a disappointment, as I felt like I was drinking a cardamon laced unsweetwned milk. The powder in this coffee is potent and completely ruins it. Even after attempting to add some sugar, I just couldn't find the right balance. So I took it home, heated up some cold brew, and dilluted their coffee in a 3:1 ratio. Added some turbinado sugar, dash of cinnamon & nutmeg, and I was in heaven. I'll attempt to make this coffee off YouTube videos to compare what went wrong with the one I bought. It's a lovely coffee shop, though service couod be faster. Support local businesses always.

Overall, this is a novel and beautiful spot for an afternoon coffee. The environment is very calming and welcoming. In terms of the coffee and desserts, they are a bit pricier when compared to other coffee chains (as others have already mentioned). However, when considering where the coffee is imported from, it makes a lot of sense. I for one appreciate the opportunity to try foods and drinks from other cultures, even if they cost a bit more. That said, I tried the saffron latte, Haraz latte, the Knafeh, and Sabaya bread. My favorite was the Haraz latte, but that’s just personal preference. Both desserts were great! I’ll echo what some others have said regarding the waiting time, however, I want to note that the staff were friendly and notified us that we might have to wait a few minutes to order (the place was packed at the time). I think this has more to do with a limited amount of staff members and not the current staff themselves. They were very sweet and accommodating despite the rush happening at the time. I definitely recommend a visit!

I would give zero stars if I could. Service was absolutely terrible. Visited today. When we first entered the place we were not greeted. It took about ten minutes for the cashier to take our order. When we asked her if they had any gluten free pastries, she said she did not know that they got their pastries from another company so they didn’t know the ingredients. Not sure how you can sell something without knowing the ingredients especially since many people have allergies. We ordered two coffee. A shaken espresso and a white mocha. The woman asked me if I wanted mine hot and I said yes. We sat down outside. After a few minutes, the woman came out to ask if I wanted my drink hot. I guess she forgot which was fine because they were busy so I’ll give her that. We waited about 30 minutes and we got our first drink only it had no espresso in it so it was just oatmilk. Waited another few minutes for my drink (around 40mins now) and it never came out. When we went up to the coffee area to ask about where my drink was the manager angrily told us that they were busy and accidents happen. He didn’t apologize and actually was completely hostile towards us for even asking about it. Turned out they hadn’t even started my drink so the manager had to reprint our ticket. At this point, I just wanted my money back so we asked for a refund. The manager angrily processed our refund but didn’t even give me the money back to my credit card but handed me cash lol saying the machine couldn’t refund it back to the original payment method. Anyways, would never come back here again!! Terrible service and clearly they have not trained staff properly to handle a rush.

We also weren’t the only ones this happened to. Another woman came up the counter frustrated that it took 30 mins to get her chai. The barista tried to offer to take it back to the table which she replied “just give me my coffee it’s been 30minutes.”

Needless to say, I’ll spend my money back at my favorite coffee...

I can confidently say that Ali Hussain is the greatest barista I’ve ever had the pleasure of encountering. Over the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow from a talented newcomer into a true master of his craft. His journey has been nothing short of inspiring. From day one, his passion for coffee was evident, but it’s his dedication to constant improvement that has truly set him apart. Ali’s attention to detail is extraordinary – whether it’s crafting the perfect shot of espresso, steaming milk to a velvety consistency, or creating intricate latte art, he does it with precision and care.

But it’s not just his technical expertise that makes Ali stand out. His warm, welcoming personality transforms every visit into a memorable experience. He’s always eager to engage with customers, remember their preferences, and offer thoughtful suggestions, making you feel like more than just a patron. Ali is a true professional, but it’s his genuine love for coffee and the people he serves that make him exceptional. I’ve seen him take on every challenge, from perfecting new techniques to managing the rush during peak hours, with grace and a smile. His growth as a barista has been incredible, and it’s clear that his passion for coffee has only deepened with time.

What truly sets Ali apart, though, is the heart he puts into every cup. He doesn’t just make coffee; he creates experiences. Whether I’m ordering a classic espresso or asking for a custom drink, I know I can trust him to deliver something outstanding every single time. His consistency is unmatched, and it’s this unwavering commitment to excellence that makes every visit to Haraz a treat. Ali Hussain is more than just a barista; he’s an artist who has elevated the coffee culture at Haraz in ways that are truly remarkable. I’m excited to continue watching his growth and to savor many more perfect cups of coffee in the...

I've been coming to Haraz since it opened, and I can not stress how amazing this café is. With a traditional Arabic selection of coffee and snacks, you will almost certainly find something to satisfy your appetite here. While the entire staff is nothing but friendly and hospitable, Hailey and Isa deserve special recognition for taking the time to get to know me and even remembering my order! The owner is also exemplary in the food industry and often engages in conversation with his regulars.

There are very few bad things I can say about this café other than the outlets are a bit limited, so if you want a good spot, get here early!

As for recommendations, I can not stress enough the exquisite taste of their Bee-Bites (Cream cheese-filled bread topped with honey) and a standard Haraz latte that is spiced to perfection. (I might add that it is Enjoyed hot or cold.)

I plan to continue coming to Haraz for a long time!

Update as of 3/18/2025

While still a fantastic spot, it is worth mentioning management has recently changed however the menu remains amazing, and the staff is as reliable as ever. Oliver, Muhammad, and Halie deserve special recognition as well.

Also if you are intimidated by the coffee menu, the staff has been always ready to explain what each item is and make good recommendations.

The only caveat is with the increased traffic, I wish they would find a way to add more power outlets, since as a student I need to stay plugged in to work on my laptop and charge...
