The good, this store is a classic newer Food Lion, great selection, great produce and meat, larger isles than the older stores and fair pricing and specials. The bad, on this shopping trip I had 2 items I wanted to buy, one was with a "rain check". When I got to the check out area there were only 2 open registers with lines of at least 5-6 customers waiting. Neither line had any employees bagging for the cashiers, or slowing the lines down even more. I asked the cashier handling the self checkout if she could help me with the raincheck item, she said no. I would have to wait in a long line with only 2 items, great... As I waited I could see the cashier was overwhelmed and undertrained. He struggled through a large order, had trouble with coupons and no BACKUP or help. A lot of wasted time because he was not trained properly and was not provided with any backup. Poor, or lack of training, is because of the management not the employee that is obviously struggling. When it was finally my turn, about 10 minutes later, he did not know how to deal with a raincheck, called 2 times, no one came, tried again, then finally someone showed up to help. He was embarrassed, felt bad and apologized. He was not the problem, management is the problem, they obviously did not train him properly and did not provide him with backup. An on duty manager should have be aware of the fact that the checkout lines were backlogged and immediately gotten involved to fix the obvious problem. Would not recommend this Food Lion unless you only have a few items and can use the self checkout. Our local (Conway) Food Lion is far better, people who work there are trained, have backup and help in getting their customers in and out in a timely...
Read moreThe store itself is nice. The problem is coroporate management is obviously cheap and doesn't want to pay people to get the job done. I was there today and there was rotten lunch meat all in full display in the case. Nothing marked down or thrown out. They had one register open during peak business hours, no baggers and only 4 self checkout terminals. Scanning groceries and bagging them is not an easy job, and if I'm going to have to do all that work. I expect to get paid for it, or I want my groceries discounted. The store is taking advantage of their customers for free labor! It's ridiculous. Several items all through the store are are priced wrong as well. Another sign of insufficient staff. All their meat is pre-packaged just like Walmart as well. When I went to ring my eggs up, out of my full cart of food at self check out, they came up as 6.99. They were clearly marked in the back as a "hot sale" for 3.59 or somewhere close to that. I told the self checkout attendant this and she just pointed to my screen and said "see that mark right there, that will be next to the items on sale with your foodlion card", and then turns away. Realizing that I'm on my own, with a giant line of people waiting to scan all their groceries(free labor) looking at me. I just walked out rather then spend another half hour in there getting the prices straight, waiting in line again and scanning, bagging my own groceries. I hate to do that, but that company has gone in the toilet and I won't be going back. I used to love foodlion. It's been declining for years. Word of advice to all these kind of stores. Get rid of your massive and useless management staffs and insted hire and take care of the people who actually get...
Read moreMy family and I have shopped at this store for a while now and usually have a pleasant experience, however that was not the case this past Sunday. I had stopped in to grab some chicken and food from the deli. When I walked up, I saw he had no hair net and no gloves but was touching food with his bare hands. He was also eating chips and a candy bar and did not wash his hands before touching the other food. What got to me the most was that I witnessed him drop a piece of chicken on the floor which I'm pretty sure weren't sanitized or cleaned at all. He then proceeded to pick up the chicken off the floor with his bare hands, and instead of throwing it away he put it back in the pan and continued to attempt to sale it to another customer who also saw what had happened. When I confronted him and asked what he was doing and letting him know I saw the whole thing, he basically told me there was nothing wrong with it and that I needed to mind my own business. I was both appalled and disgusted. So much so that I left my cart full of stuff and left the store. I believe his name was Brandon. I will probably never...
