Had to edit this review so many times that it’s honestly ridiculous. Don’t even bother with Planet Fitness. It’s cheap and the equipment is not bad at all, but literally NOBODY has a whole lot of great things to say. Especially with how you can sign up in minutes online to start paying them and the only way to cancel is by either coming in to the EXACT building you signed up in or by mailing the paperwork to the EXACT building you signed up in. No way to cancel online or over the phone.
I started working out here AFTER the pandemic settled because it was 24hrs and has since changed its hours until 11pm on weekdays and 9pm on Friday and Saturday? How does that even make sense? It was also affordable and fairly local. But the problems I’ve had seem to happen every few months. I’ve had people be so loud slamming weights and having the longest phone conversations, not even trying to be be quiet, step outside, or keep it short and have seen nothing done which is honestly not a huge deal to me, I’d get over it. But when I accidentally slam a weight literally 1 single time on a machine I had not used before, an employee takes the time to walk all the way over to me and tell me it’s not allowed. Rules are fine but how about some consistency? Still, not the I could move past it.
After my year long membership ended, I signed up again for month to month and the first day back only days later, I was not allowed in because I didn’t have my ID. Consistently at your gym all year where employees even know who I am. I’m in your system that has a PHOTO OF ME IN YOUR COMPUTER THAT ANY EMPLOYEE CAN SEE. But since I don’t have my ID, I am not allowed in. All of this would have been MAYBE reasonable, if at any point ANYWHERE I had been informed of this.
I come in one day and I’ve always checked in with the app on my phone but my phone was dead. I didn’t think there would be any issue. I was told I was REQUIRED to pull up the app on my phone to be allowed in. I let them know that I had it but it was dead, that I’ve been coming into this gym a few days a week for over a year and that they can look me up in their system and that I had my ID this time to prove it. He told me he could not. After a bit more back and forth, this man LET ME ANYWAYS and told me “We CAN, we’re just not supposed to.” Uhm. Excuse me, WHAT? Hahahaha. That’s so crazy. Idk who’s making the calls at this place but they are NOT qualified to do they’re job and should certainly look for employment elsewhere and ASAP.
And the BIGGEST red flag would be that I found out my parents have been being billed by planet fitness for some time now AFTER cancelling their membership. When they called about it, the reasoning was that my dads name was still in their system. Our first and last name our the same and they were looking at mine. He’s never STEPPED FOOT in the gym I go to. They didn’t really help with the situation at all and honestly, at that point are just stealing money. I’ve had the club manager contact me to help satisfy me which is the only reason I’ve kept going there so long and rewriting this review but honestly it’s not worth the effort. You can try to fix problems all you want but I’d rather just go somewhere that will focus more on preventing them :)

Read moreI cancelled my membership on the 7th. In order to not get charged for this month’s dues, it had to be done by the 10th per their policy. This is the second time I have been charged or double charged by planet fitness. They unlawfully took this month’s dues even though we have a signed document of the cancellation of my account as of 4/7/24 and the last day I could use the gym of 4/16/24. I have called over ten times today throughout all different hours and no one answers the phone. Not surprising considering the kids just stand behind the desk and talk to each other the whole time. I’ve emailed their gym as well and no response either. This is not the first time I have cancelled with the gym over the last 6 years but it will be the final time I cancel. I recommend paying for LA Fitness, you may pay more but the service and quality overall is a hundred percent worth it and the gyms are kept clean. Update- called numerous times throughout evening no response, called again numerous times this morning no response even to an email they provide. We will see where I get with the social email. Do not recommend at all. I thought Arizona was bad, this is ten fold at least that gym’s manager took care of the issues. Update as of 5/2/24 - went in to the gym on the 19th (my only day off) and spoke to the employee at the desk. They said that their system still showed active even though I have the cancellation document. So I signed another cancellation form. Was told that I would get my money back within 7 days. Still have not received it. I will be going back in and if I do not get anywhere, I will contact an attorney and go the legal route at this point. If I could give zero stars I would. Read moreI would highly recommend that members of Planet Fitness attend another club if possible. The owner of this particular club has decided that it's appropriate to up charges without informing members (in Aug. I was charged 31.40, been paying 24.30 for the past year) - no information as to why we were overcharged for the month of August. Also, I decided that I did not wish to attend a health club during the COVID crisis, called in Aug. to advise them of this and was advised that I could call up to 3 days before my bill due date to freeze my account each month - I do so in Sept. and they still charge me. Also, prior to COVID, I had a discussion with a staff member about freezing accounts and was advised that they could do so for a max of 3 months at a time. Now all of a sudden they're requesting (during a world health emergency) that members do so every month. There are twitter and Facebook comments about the lack of enforcement for PF regarding members wearing mask throughout the club when not exercising. And when I went in last night to cancel my membership, low and behold, the staff weren't wearing mask. People are using equipment and not wiping them down after and even if they did, proper use of sanitation methods include leaving the solution on the surface for up to 10 minutes before wiping. Horribly disgusted in this club's lack of compassion during these times, especially since COVID disproportionately affects people of color and they're located in a neighborhood that is predominately people of color! Their business tactics at this time are ethically questionable and I've filed a BBB and a Tacoma/Pierce Health Dept. complaint so hopefully they will get audited re the lack of proper procedure during this health crisis.
