Caregivers point of view: Ok, first I love that there is a nice new facility 10 min from my house to go to instead of trekking all the way into town through traffic to the main campus. But new doesn't always mean better. I understand it's new and there will be kinks in the product before they get fully up to speed but, the little flaws I noticed today, minor or not, I would not have expected in a NEW upgraded facility. with all the money MD Anderson must be raking in on these poor sick patients, you would think patient comfort would be #1. I want to challenge any MD Anderson Manager to lay down in those recliners for 6 hrs and tell me how you feel! Cmon spend a buck on a nice comfortable chair if they have to be in a room with out a bed. As you all must know some cancer fighting meds make you sensitive to light and sunburn prone. Why the heck are there no drapes or blinds on the treatment room windows??? I had to move my wife around the room to keep her from getting burnt. Plus, the dang lights CANT be turned off and on manually! So she has to stare into florescent light fixtures all day? fail. and lastly, was there no room in the budget for automatic wheelchair door openers for the entry to the treatment area? (another manager challenge for ya. go ahead try it, with backpacks, bedding, and purse on board. Maybe you hired too may greeters for the lobbies to tell you which button to push on the elevator that even I had to think about for a second. Hint, it wasn't obvious, have fun with the fire drills. On a positive note.. cause were cancer fighters! Love the FREE parking! And Every nurse, GOD BLESS THEM!!!! was Kind courteous and helpful! unlike a lot of them at the main campus who appear very over worked...
Read moreI am a medical professional and I’m aware of the health laws. There is no patient privacy here, a violation of HIPAA. Names are said out loud with all private information said in front of others. This is not how you keep patients’ names confidential and their health information. The staff was so loud and unprofessional. I hope management will take the time to properly teach the staff how to speak kindly to patients and the importance of patient confidentiality. This was my first time here and it was an unpleasant experience. I don’t think I’ll return to this location. I’d rather drive to Houston where the staff are more professional. MDANDERSON in Houston is a world-class research institution. They are building satellite campuses and it could bring great things. However, this facility has a long way to go in knowing how to treat patients with compassion and to mimic the well established reception that cancer patients should receive from the moment they walk in the door. In Houston beginning with the parking valets their kindness and thoughtfulness are evident.
The staff also spoke about their private life loudly for all of us to hear adding to the unprofessional environment.Instead of being patient towards me, the laboratory registration staff ended our interaction by saying, “I thought you had enough of me” since she couldn’t understand me past the mask I was wearing. She was irritated by the fact that I tried to be helpful by writing my information down. She loudly said I was here for another procedure. Utter nonsense for now. Please try to make this place a calm, welcoming, and tranquil clinic where cancer patients can feel welcomed...
Read morePeople have talked very highly of MD Anderson so I was shocked when I went through the process myself. I wouldn’t wish my worst enemy on the financial department. They accept UHC but not my specific plan. So I applied for financial aid and got denied because I have insurance…Yes, this is a corrupt system (MD Andersons policy that you will be denied financial aid regardless of your insurance not being accepted). Aside from that nonsense, Linda Gonzales was a financial rep whose negligence caused a huge amount of stress (which isn’t healthy for a stage 4 cancer patient). She called my emergency contact and mentioned if I didn’t pay by the end of the day, my appointment would be canceled. I called her back within 30 minutes of their call to pay. When she called back (before lunch) she told me she had to cancel the appointment because I didn’t pay. When you tell a cancer patient who has been waiting for this world renowned center to finally have an appointment, that suddenly their appointment is gone in a blink of an eye, is heartbreaking. After advocating for myself and not backing down, she finally said we could reschedule the same day. The craziest part is, at the end of the call, Linda stated I could pay at the time of arrival…. If this review is confusing, then welcome to my world. Please go anywhere else to make sure you have financial people on your side to decrease the stress of an already stressful situation and to find people that don’t use control for the fun of it (aka...
