I feel as though my school has played a prank on me. Back in May 2024, I was informed to register for classes for the upcoming fall semester. I chose two classes with different professors, one of whom I was already familiar with. Everything seemed fine until late July or early August, when the school began sending notifications of frequent professor changes. At that time, I had no idea this would turn into a real problem.
Currently, I am in my fourth semester at this school, completing the final level of the ESOL program. I’m enrolled in a Reading and Writing class with this new professor. Her class was delayed by two weeks, and it wasn’t until the very last day of the second week that she finally uploaded the course information, including pre-class assignments. However, these pre-class assignments seemed irrelevant since the first class focused solely on the syllabus. Even so, almost all 10 students in the class were penalized for not completing these pre-class assignments. This set a frustrating tone right from the beginning.
My classmates and I find her teaching style dry, overly complex, and difficult to follow—so much so that it raises questions about her suitability for teaching. A few students have already dropped out in frustration. More than half of us wanted to transfer to another section, but when I approached the advisor, I was told that the administration would not allow it. With just 10 students remaining, it’s disappointing that we aren’t being given flexibility despite the widespread concerns.
The syllabus itself is unnecessarily complex and confusing, requiring us to access multiple external resources. Homework assignments are extremely extensive and difficult, coming from various sources she has prepared. Both a friend and I tried to speak with her about the issue, but her only advice was to aim for a 70% (C) to pass. It’s disheartening to pay nearly $1,000 per class, only to feel that I’m receiving inadequate instruction and little regard for the quality of my education.
This is the second time I have encountered such mishandling in this program, and it feels worse than ever.
As an international student, I came to this school with the expectation of a professional, well-organized learning environment, especially given the high tuition fees. But constant last-minute changes in professors and the lack of coherent instruction have damaged my motivation and my trust in the school’s ability to provide a quality education. I chose this program to gain skills that would prepare me for further studies or my career, but these challenges have hindered my ability to progress effectively.
I respectfully urge the administration to review policies related to class management and professor changes. Allowing students more flexibility to transfer classes when faced with unexpected and disruptive changes in professors could alleviate significant stress and frustration. Clear, timely communication about such changes would also help students prepare effectively and maintain a positive learning experience.
I hope the school will understand my situation, particularly as an international student who has invested substantially in this education. Proactive support and policy adjustments could greatly enhance the experience for both current and...
Read moreMy father have passed away when my semester had just Started. I told my professors that I was not in the right state of mind to continue my classes therefore, I needed to withdraw. My professor said that she will go ahead and withdraw me, and never did. So I had to appeal My grade for my classes. It took eight months for the appeal to finally go through with numerous emails and calls to the school. I’ve complained to the school about how nobody is getting back to me via email. Because unfortunately, the appeal is only through email and there is no phone number that you can call and speak to somebody. Finally was done and going through financial aid to see what I can do about the money Portion, they said that they are already sent my balance to a credit bureau. Look at my credit score unfortunately it hit and drop my credit score. I tried to talk to numerous people about the situation and was only told to re-appeal for the financial aid portion. At this point I just gave up. After all the schooling that I’ve done and only have the nursing program to do this school completely crushed my dreams even in my vulnerable Of losing my father, who was my biggest supporter. This school did not help me whatsoever or even tried. I felt like I was running in circles, trying to get answers, but only got confused by One person, one thing and another person saying another. My husband is a VA and has recently struggling to get them to do their portion when he had already submitted all his documents. So a month goes by and he was just told today that his file had just been sitting on a desk and not been worked on. He has been waiting for months only to get told that he needed more paperwork once he had finished that paperwork they needed more paperwork that was not the first time. And that it’s been seven months.. Still no process or any movement on his VA Benefits to start school. I have gone to different colleges and when transferred over To Montgomery during Covid, this is by far the worst college I’ve...
Read moreHad an awful experience. During hurricane Harvey, I was stuck out of town and when I got back, I had to start school a few days late. Music department was uncompassionate. Choir director Mr. Marotto runs the music department and he was very arrogant, impatient, and took my education very trivial. I tried to take care of things by email and he would respond to emails incompletely which delayed me preparing a head of time. I'm already a teacher and I was going back to expand my education. When I told him I was having communication problems with theory teacher Mr. Walsh, he told me the teacher is not going any where, that I should go find another school location because he doesn't have time for this. My problem with Mr. Walsh was similar. I then tried to talk to dean, and beware because the Dean was only an advocate for the teacher and told me I could drop out if I wanted to. She stood behind her teachers regardless of what I said. It seemed like they could have slapped me and she would have supported them. I actually became very emotional because I was really determined to return to school and get a music degree. They seem to only want to deal with children fresh out of high school and not adults. I'm 28. I was left with no choice but to drop classes and leave. How little they cared about my future and goals was heartless and shameful. I can't believe these types of people can be educators. This was a sorry excuse of a school and a disgrace of the human race. There are many loopholes in the school program and students suffer. You don't know how many students they have treated the way I was treated. And when we are successful... it will be without these teachers help. Students should record conversations with everyone who works there so you have records. No one...
