Weis Markets — Local services in Thurmont

The stars are for the phsrmacy, which I would give them a 5 for, but this is rating the whole store. Weis is more expensive than the other local grocery store. Hate the way they do their BOGO's ,5 for $5, 10 for $10 deals, and their electronic coupons. If you see a 5 for $5 sale item, you have to buy all 5 to get the items for $1. If you only want or need 3 or so, you pay full price. At Food Lion, a mile away, if you get 3 items, you pay $3. I don't know if they still do it (its why I stopped shopping there) they started electronic coupons. I have a Weis card (or used my phone number, why on earth would I carry around grocery store cards for 20 years), alot of what I was shopping for happened to have an electric coupon. Now I had to download the app enter most of the information they already had, just so they could get my email address to send me more junk email. I go through all of this until the app asks for the numbers on my store card. Idk, I haven't had that card in years, again, that's why I enter my phone number. I go with my almost full cart to customer service to get my card number. They basically tell me they can't give it to me, hand me a new card to fill out my information again. At that point I said, "That's it, I'm done, I've already spent a ridiculous amount of time here just to get a sale price on more expensive items, I am leaving this cart here, sorry, not sorry, someone else can put everything back. I am going to Food Lion." Probably not the nicest thing I could've done, but I could've been worse. I would rather shop at Food Lion they are cheaper...

I was having trouble finding tuna, since no grocery stores have directories anymore. And canned meat wasn't listed on any overhead sign.

I asked an employee, who asked "Did you try around here?" and waved her hand around to indicate the entire grocery area. Um, yes, I had looked where the food was.

It seems Weis doesn't train their employees in any useful way. I couldn't hold back & just asked "So you don't know?" At that point, she went to ask someone. I hadn't meant to be unpleasant, but grocery shopping has become an exercise in frustration lately.

Also, they have no express check-outs. Presumably, this is to compel customers to use the self-checkouts. No thanks, I'm not on the payroll. Plus those things don't work right 99% of the time. It freezes up and you have to wait for an...

I hate shopping at this store but I live in the town and I refuse to shop at Food Lion unless it's absolutely necessary. In general it's not the store or the products that are sold at the store it's about half the staff especially the staff at night. If they were to take a personality test most would fail and some may even have to be committed. My advice if you're traveling through town before midnight keep going, if it's really late and you need paper towels well this may be the only show in town. But go prepared 4 no smiles, no welcome greeting, no thank you for shopping here, basically you'll be lucky if they don't call the cops on you for showing up. I can Envision a horror movie with this store and their staff as a catalyst for extreme dramatic horror. Good luck if you need...
